We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabriela Peraza a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Gabriela thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career
My line of business is all about accounting and I teach a software that is designed to manage a business in a friendly format. And one thing I have encountered in the working field is that young generations who have completed a higher level education degree in Finance, Business and even in Administrative courses, , lack of the basic accounting terms.
I have a feeling that their classes at college are complex. The syllabus is complex. Their courses in school are not providing the basic tools for them to succeed. I have seen graduates who do not know what is a Balance Sheet or how to read a Profit and Loss.

Gabriela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Quickbooks teacher. This software is purchased through a subscription which allows businesses run their daily accounting books It also helps run the administrative tasks, such as: creating estimates, doing invoices, following up on account receivables and payables. It is given to its customers’ in a very simple a easy to understand format. You do not need to be a CPA but to have basic accounting knowledge is a must if you want to pull up accurate reports.
I provide an introduction to accounting so that the future users have a good foundation and take advantage of the software.
I feel very satisfy when my clients/students leave my office happy and excited to have finally understood what they should have learnt at school. It is very rewarding to have enlighten them!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals! Definitely referrals! If you provide a good service you get a good “word of mouth”! I believe this is the best advertising.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
A key factor to building a good reputation within the market is to empathize with your audience. They have a need and I do my best to understand their need! To be there for them when they ask for your assistance. To let them know they can count on your help and advise. Running accounting books and doing bookkeeping in a business means you have to trust your knowledge to assign the correct account to an expense or income and sometimes people doubt and that is when they can always contact me. I am always happy to guide.
