Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabriela Herstik. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gabriela, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
A year after I had moved to Los Angeles, I had been working at HelloGiggles, an online feminist website where I was a staff writer. I was essentially let go (as everyone as a staff writer knows, this is how it goes lol) and I was forced to work for myself. This was a huge shift and at first it was very scary, but I eventually began to write and sell ritual guides and continue writing books, and sharing classes on witchcraft. It was hard to figure out how to work for myself but I adapted and now being my own boss is the best thing to ever happen to me. I just wish I had considered myself a business back then and not just a freelancer.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been a leading voice in the occult and witchcraft world for nearly a decade, where I’ve been unraveling and exploring the intersection of the erotic and esoteric. My goal is to make metaphysical practices and magickal techniques accessible, inspiring, and empowering through my books, classes, art, writing, and podcasts. I have four full length books out “Inner Witch”, “Bewitching the Elements”, “Sacred Sex” and “Goddess Energy” as well as a guided journal “Embody Your Magick” and a tarot deck called the “Goddess of Love Tarot”.
In the past, I have had a column for NYLON Magazine called “Ask a Witch”, one for High Times Magazine called “the High Priestess” and have written for numerous publications around the world including Vogue International, Dazed, i-D, Glamour, and more, and have been featured in press in print and online around the world.
My work is here for those who want to tap into their magick, connect with their Divinity, and own their eroticism. My work centers embodiment, sensuality, the Divine Feminine, and magick. I share this through my podcast “Love, Lust & Magick” as well as through my online membership/ coven “Slut Coven”, where I teach classes, lead rituals, and share all my magick and content.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to be driven by what inspires me, my purpose, and my desire. As someone who did not do well sitting in a desk for eight hours a day working for someone else, I love working for myself. The money is way more inconsistent, and while you’re building your business, it can be really hard, but the joy and power I find waking up every day and following my passions is everything. It takes discipline and I think of my work all the time but it’s so worth it.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My purpose in this life is to destigmatize sex, witchcraft, and the Goddess and to help people connect to their power and magick through the body and the sensual, and not in spite of it. Everything I do is an offering to and in honor of the Goddess, and my mission is to help others live a life filled with magick and meaning.
