We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabriel Savage a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gabriel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Growing up in a household with other creatives had inspired me to pursue music. My mother taught me how to sing, play the basics of guitar and write music. Later in life I was able to show friends and family songs I’ve worked on, and seeing how the lyrics had impacted them had brought me great joy knowing they’ve related to the music. I hoped to bring that same relate-ability to listeners who come across my projects.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Gabriel Savage or SooSavvy,. I’m a music artist from Thornton Colorado. Growing up, music was a big hobby in my family. My mother used to travel around and perform herself, and hearing her stories had always intrigued me. In my pre-teens i decided to pick up a guitar and learn how to play, then later learned how to write songs. I’n 2022 I decided to finally release music after meeting an amazing producer, and don’t plan on stopping.
My projects are a mixture of pop, alternative, punk, with influences in other genres. I write music in the hopes to relate to others, so that they know they aren’t alone with whatever they’re facing, or bring light to a situation. I’m proud of knowing my music has affected others, and that I can brighten a listeners day. That’s what’s gonna keep me going, getting people through their day.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
It took a while but I built my audience by reaching out to other artists and creatives for collaboration. Support other artists in their craft, building connections and or friendships.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Share artists posts, merchandise, music, etc. If people in society would support artists they know personally and buy their art, listen to their music or give word of their services and spread word to fellow friends and family. I think it would be great to expose all the great talent and brilliant minds in the creative space.
