We recently connected with Gabriel Sanchez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriel, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
As an artist, I’m really happy being creative. Sometimes I wonder what having a regular job would be like, but what I love most is the freedom that comes with being an artist. It’s not just artists – everyone wants that freedom. Whether you’re starting a business or going your own way, we all want to do our best and set our own rules. Nobody likes others telling them what to do. More and more people are realizing this and choosing creative paths. It does feel a bit special to have a unique job like being an artist, but I’m also a dad, and that means I have real responsibilities. It’s not as simple as crashing on a friend’s couch. There are expectations, especially for guys. Life isn’t always easy, and you have to go through some tough times to feel like you’ve really achieved something. So, even if you need a regular job to support your family and do art on the side, that’s totally okay. It’s actually pretty honorable. Regular jobs aren’t something to be ashamed of, as long as you remember the things you’re giving up and don’t get lost in just chasing after money without expressing yourself.

Gabriel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a figurative oil painter and my mian objective is to tell stories. I choose my subjects on their expression and ability to communicate a narrative that many people can relate to. I am currently working on a series of paintings inspired by the people of Cuba. As a Cuban descendent my moral compass takes me to a conversation, that is tough to have, a conversation that is real, and one that I express through my paintings.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I believe that as the world gets more digitized the art market will expand unto the multi verse, I admire the artists for their creativity.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I would want to see a democratically elected government in Cuba, with an open market policy and see Cuba flourish to how it once was.
