We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabriel Radulescu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gabriel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I started this career as a professional photographer in 2012 when i was living in the Aloha state, Maui, Hawaii. Prior to that,i pursued photography as a passion alongside working in the fitness, beauty, and physical therapy industries. I worked on cruise ships for almost a decade as a massage therapist ( 2 yrs) and as a spa director (7 yrs)
While i was living in Hawaii in 2012 i upgraded my photo camera from a point-and-shoot Sony camera to a Canon DSLR. Initially, I learned the basics of photography during my time in Hawaii, and the more i learned the more i realized i need more, i need to move away from auto mode into manual mode, and this opened a whole new world of creativity and possibilities in front of me.
I am a self thought photographer, i started to invest more time and money into trainings and courses to learn and understand the fundamentals of photography. I was watching live courses on creativelive.com and I learned from great photographers and the best part was that i started to see the photography from their perspective. When you see 5 or 6 different perspectives on the same photo, then you start to push and educate your creative style.
The most essential skill was the will to learn. You either have it or you either focus on objections and obstacles. This inside will to learn took hours and hours of watching, taking notes, taking the camera outdoor and practice, go back and watch & learn again. it was like reading a good book, you don’t read a good book only one time, you always feel to go back because the 2nd time you will pay attention to other details than the first time.
Speeding up the process…i think i already took the shortcut, obviously there is no shortcut when you study but i took the shortcut when i one day i met my spanish friend Samie who just moved to Dubai and my business just exploded when she started to send me her friends for photoshoots. I believe there are no coincidences in life, you always meet people for a reason.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As mentioned before, I used to be a Spa Director on the Cruise ships for about 9 yrs and that offer me the possibility of travelling around the world, from places like Alaska to Caribbeans all the way to beautiful Venice, Barcelona and Greek islands and taking millions of photos everywhere i used to go.
While living in Hawaii in 2012, i moved from a point and shoot sony camera to Canon 60D DSLR and once moved into DSLR i decided to learn more, to move away from auto mode where you don’t really have to do much into the fundamentals of photography (composition-shutter speed-exposure)
In 2015, when i moved to Dubai i started to be called to do different small fashion projects and from there more and more request came in. In a very short time, the clients reviews and the quality of my work took me from zero to hero, becoming called ”the celebrities photographer” and my name popped up in the Yahoo News and Yahoo Lifestyle

After yahoo, my work got published in PLAYBOY, FHM, MAXIM Australia and HARPERS BAZAAR Vietnam and more articles came out.

The main thing i am proud of is the end results and my client satisfaction. the end results doesn’t consist in amount of money i take but it consist in the quality of the work i am able to provide either it is a swimsuit brand shoot, a lingerie brand advert or just a casual event for either a corporate party or an engagement ceremony.
I always put the quality on top of anything, i always try to create different things and looks and since i am doing more and more video productions these days under my @grmedia.tv, my goal is to BRING STORIES TO LIFE for anyone that resonate with my quality of work.
@gabrielrphotography & @grmedia.tv is providing all type of photo shoots and video productions (swimwear, lingerie, fitness, events, lifestyle, engagement ceremonies, cars etc)
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The driving force is to make a photograph talk…..yes a photography should tell a story, either is an expression of a luxury car, a story of powerful race car or to express the beauty of model.
2nd driving force is to BRING STORIES TO LIFE in any of video productions. For example, when i shoot a temple in Thailand, i am looking to BRING TO LIFE the story of how was build, why was build where most of the people get lost or they get amazed in the things that stays at the surface.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
to started earlier a youtube channel but is never too late to start something so this is also one of the future GRMEDIA.TV projects
