We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabriel Pearson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gabriel , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Whether I’m working closely with an artist to create a seamless sound and image or developing curriculum for universities, my mission is driven by a commitment to stand up for the incredible creatives of our time. My journey has been shaped by firsthand experiences of being undervalued by industry gatekeepers and witnessing the devaluation of genuine artistry. This has fueled my passion for bringing music back to a free-flowing, judgment-free space where creativity and beauty can thrive.
I’m dedicated to providing insights and education that go beyond traditional methods, offering learning experiences that resonate with those who don’t simply learn by reading textbooks. My goal is to create a student-centered environment where individuals are empowered and equipped to grow. I never had an education that truly catered to my needs, so I am committed to fostering that supportive space for others as they build their skills and careers.
Gabriel , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Gabriel Pearson, professionally known as Mixedbygabriel. I am a full-time, Billboard-charting music producer and mixing/mastering engineer based in Brooklyn, New York. Many recognize me as a serial entrepreneur in the music industry, having built a production collective comprised of highly skilled producers and engineers who work on songs and secure beat placements for major artists, films, and video games.
In addition to production, I run a successful e-commerce business, selling digital products such as templates and beats. Beyond the studio, I serve as an educator and mentor, developing and implementing curricula in partnership with universities and organizations.
My brand is built on three core principles: quality, consistency, and transparency. Having spent many years in the music business, I am dedicated to creating a platform that offers genuine value to producers and engineers, ensuring they feel valued for their craft. For artists, my platform provides valuable insights without a focus on profit. We pride ourselves on being a collective of music lovers who prioritize integrity, aiming to ensure the longevity of the arts by providing a comprehensive career blueprint for creatives.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My journey on social media has been a long and evolving process, but the turning point came when I realized that the key to success lies in offering genuine value—often in the form of free education. By doing so, you position yourself as a respected expert in your field, rather than someone solely driven by profit. Over the years, I’ve produced a wide range of content, from tutorials and commercials to podcasts. I’ve found that providing authentic, honest insights into business is what truly resonates with audiences and goes the farthest. Once you’ve established this foundation and a clean, cohesive brand, generating leads becomes a natural next step.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
While I originally set out to be a music producer or engineer, my career has evolved into something much broader, encompassing various aspects of the music industry. This versatility has been key to maintaining a consistent income. In an industry where everyone experiences highs and lows in popularity, diversifying your skills and excelling in multiple areas significantly increases your value. This approach has led to opportunities with companies and educational institutions—opportunities that might not have been available had I focused solely on beat-making.
Key milestones in my career include studying under Mixedbyblue, where I learned the nuances of label studio interactions, professionalism, and customer service. Gaining credits with artists like Coi Leray and Trap Beckham were pivotal moments that not only brought me substantial pay but also garnered attention. Every plaque, article, or interview I’ve received holds deep meaning for me because recognition in the music industry is rare, and it’s important to celebrate those achievements.
