We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabriel Ortiz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gabriel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I strive to pave a way for individuals who wish to be independent from the molds of habits and personality to be free and successful.
I am a big believer in community over profit, because if you prioritize profit over people then you are no different than the corporations who govern our current way of life.

Gabriel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I entered the world of music through a longing of wanting to belong. I couldn’t find anything outside of myself that helped me feel wanted and I had emotions that needed to be released before I felt the need to self destruct. I started with writing poetry, then I began to write raps to hip hop beats, and slowly evolved to actually rapping and producing. At the present moment, I am experimenting with synthesizers to make my own sounds and typically make alternative and techno music.
I’m different from others because my willingness to commit action behind my ideas are supersonic. I feel that because of how fast I wish to manifest my skills and projects, I become selfish in how I work with others. I believe that environment plays a huge role in how a person approaches life, and I believe my environment (Phoenix, Arizona) has developed me into a being of quick thinking and problem solver.
I want potential fans to recognize me as a force of authenticity that resists all measures of being controlled. I am in search of the highest method of musical communication to spread my ideals and shape the future in a way that combats the limitations set on us as humans. I strive to pave a road for future generations to walk where they can reach their greatest potential and not feel the weight of the world influenced by greed.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was learning how to mix and master my music, there came a moment when I realized I didn’t have the time to pursue my passion for music without acknowledging that my life was slowly becoming a financial burden. I had to recalculate my approach to how I was going to live my life. This was about 1-2 years into recording music and I acknowledged that I was no where near becoming a sustainable music artist. So I decided to prioritize building a moving business over making music. I never completely stopped making music, but I slowed down and prioritized certain projects and skills, such as learning production and engineering over marketing and creating a brand.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My moving business ended up being a massive success in Portland, Oregon. I took my life up there off of an intuition based decision. I had no money, but I had a cargo van, my belongings, and the experience of surviving up to this point.
This experience gave me the confidence to believe that I wasn’t a victim of society, instead, growing up with immigrant parents in an environment that shows no mercy on the unfortunate unlocked the skills I needed to thrive in an environment that requires less of me to survive.
I started out working as a sub contractor for companies, then slowly took steps to brand myself to local businesses who needed my services. Over time, my work ethic, ability to communicate and problem solve, connected me to a network of clients that provide me with an income to which I was able to maximize my life.
The best part of it all, I never quit making music, I always told everyone I was an artist before a businessman and that has helped me stay connected with other artists and creatives with similar passions.
