Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Campolla
Hi Gabriel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
August 2021. I’m sitting with my real estate team in business coaching when suddenly, a question came to me like a bolt of lightning.
I had been a REALTOR® for a handful of years up to this point. I absolutely adored my career and my “CB Family” (and still do!) But, I had gotten into real estate out of necessity and a part of me felt a little empty as we were setting goals for the following year. My soul is built to design and create, and though I’m great with people and conducting their transactions, real estate just isn’t the most creative career field. This goal planning for next year was just a bunch of numbers – that’s what real estate is.
Then it hit me – The question that came out of nowhere was “where did that quirky little boy that designed and built things go? The one that wanted to be a car designer?” This was so profound to me because this part of my soul – of my identity – was trapped a decade prior. I had quite the sudden, hard crash landing into adult hood in late 2011, and that magical part of my soul was left behind.
As soon as our coaching hour was up, I went straight home to do some soul searching. It was such a liberating process; I felt such a sense of relief, renewed purpose, and a very rich excitement for the future. I literally feel like there is the spirit of little Gabriel in my heart. The boy who is wise beyond his years, the one who is eternally grateful and optimistic, and the one who has a designer’s eye and somehow finds a way to bring his designs to reality.
But, what does this future look like? What does all this mean? With “little Gabriel” now at the helm of this ship, calling all the shots, where are we headed? As we enjoy another rotation around the sun, my world feels a lot more… balanced, I suppose is the right word? I would never consider my life “normal” but it no longer feels like I’m running myself into an abyss.
It’s now October 2022 and I’m cleaning my car in my garage, a favorite pastime. I’d noticed that my favorite brand of chemicals had changed around 2020, so I’m not sure if it was the pandemic or a change in ownership or what the matter was. Anyway, I’d been searching for replacements. I tried many different brands and products, but none seemed to fill the shoes of the original. Then, something gave me the biggest goosebumps I’d ever had. Almost as-if “little Gabriel” was sitting right beside me, my soul heard “we can make our own… and we can do it waaaaaay better than this!” I dropped what I was doing and found myself pouring hours of time into research and design. The child-like enthusiasm that overcame me was so pure, so magical – good thing I was home alone, others might have thought I lost my mind! This was the most fun I’d ever had; and later that year, “Teyko” was born.
Teyko offers top-tier automotive products, services, and merchandise. All things that I designed and/or created with the help of their respective industry experts. This has been the most soul-fulfilling venture I could’ve ever imagined and we’re just getting started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It actually has been a relatively smooth road. Almost everything Teyko does is in-house, and I feel like that has contributed immensely toward the relative ease of this endeavor. There are only four things that are outsourced, everything else is in-house. All the marketing initiatives and material, including the website; product design; fulfillment; and even some deliveries are done by me.
It’s definitely not something I would recommend, as doing all of this yourself can become very overwhelming very, very quickly. However, it keeps the drama and stress of working with others and communicating your vision extremely low as well as costs/monetary investment.
Some of the struggles that have arose include plans changing with our outside vendors, that’s the biggest one. I also feel like I launched this with a teeny bit too much optimism, but that didn’t turn out to be a bad thing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We go by simply “Teyko” and we aim to deliver exceptional results in automotive applications.
Through nearly 20 years of refining automotive care processes, we have a way of making cars look new and making it look easy. Teyko is beginning to get a reputation of being the [technology company named after a fruit] of our industry. Our products are simple and easy to use, and everything just works in harmony. Customers are constantly eager to share their gratitude for the ease of use of anything Teyko.
Something that sets us apart from others is this: At the core, we “treat everybody like they’re somebody.” Everything Teyko is geared toward personalization and relationship first, and then business later. We use names at every opportunity because it builds that personal connection. It’s relatively easy to wash a car and offer great products. Making it memorable is a different level entirely.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I want to encourage readers to follow their passions. It doesn’t have to be like my journey with Teyko – it can be bigger or it can be smaller. But, do what you liked to do as a kid. That will give you the most pure sense of joy you’ve ever felt. Let that childhood spirit guide you and you will undoubtedly live a fulfilling life.
