We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabriel Bernal Rodriguez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gabriel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I would like to be remembered for being faithful to my graphic line, for continuing the legacy of being creative, developing a personal voice to know for and give the customer unique pieces.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Tattoos allow you to immortalize what you carry in your heart on your skin, as a reminder that it will always be with you.
I entered the industry because I have always had a passion for drawing and found tattooing a medium through which I could explore and express myself. The possibility of taking an idea and immortalizing it on the skin always caught my attention. It has always seemed like something magical to me, a kind of ritual.
I started my apprenticeship about 10 years ago, and since then tattooing became the center of my life, it has given me everything I have, it is something that I can always carry with me, no matter the place or the circumstances.
I like to create, explore ideas, and that is why I consider drawing to be a great tool, it allows you to make everything you have in your head real.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Art is something that always accompanies you, that you can do no matter where you are or the moments you are going through, and it is something that will make you transcend time, something for which you will be remembered.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Stay constantly learning, exploring new things and implementing them in the style that I like and that I am know for, staying true to my style.
