Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabby Lovelace. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gabby, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think failure and attitude all play a big role in success. Setting boundaries and being disciplined can be one of the best things you can do for yourself, in business and personal life. If every business idea or venture went perfect every time you set out to do it, a lot of lessons would be missed. I think being receptive to criticism helps build character in your business. Success for me personally hasn’t been based on others approval, but my discipline, and what I am able to provide to myself, my family and clients. It is looking back over my years in business seeing my growth and feeling accomplished for the way I have evolved and been flexible with changes.

Gabby, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Gabby, and I run Glam by Gab. I am a full service stylist and a bridal specialist. You can find me in the salon through the week and traveling for weddings on the weekends. I have been in the business for almost 6 years. I think what sets me apart is my sincere appreciation for my clients. Anytime someone sits in my chair, my goal is to make everyone love what they see. As a mom and a woman, I have struggled with image issues and it’s very liberating to play a small part in making others love themselves. I hope to be a safe place for clients, whether it’s to celebrate life’s victories or being an ear when you’re down.
Have you ever had to pivot?
After my husband and I had our daughter in June of 2021, a lot was put into perspective for me. I struggled with the balance of motherhood and service provider. October of the same year is when I stepped out from under an employer and started working for myself. It was such a pivotal step, not only in my career, but my family’s life as well. I didn’t want to pick between a career that I love, and also being a present mom. Thanks to my clients, and a lot of determination, my business has thrived in ways I didn’t even know possible. The pride I have in my business is such an indescribable feeling. The growth I have had this past year as a stylist, and person, is irreplaceable.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Honestly, as cliche as it may sound, I “let the hair do the talking.” I try my best to provide every client, whether they sit in my chair once or 100+ times, with the confidence to recreate their styles at home. Whether it’s taking a few extra minute to demonstrate how I curl hair, or educating on a styling product. At the end of the day, my clients’ hair is a walking billboard. A good picture on Instagram helps as well, but nothing beats a word-of-mouth recommendation.
