We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gabby Gonzales-Heck. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gabby below.
Gabby, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I came from a family of entrepreneurs. When I was growing up, my grandpa had a family-run sawmill, and my dad worked there. He was coined the “Sidekick,” my grandpa’s right-hand man. After he worked there, he decided to take a leap of faith and start his own business—a logging company named Sidekick Logging.
When Phil and I were brainstorming names, we wanted a name that represented our mission: to come alongside business owners to tell their story, promote the brand, and ultimately make their lives easier. A friend recommended Sidekick as a business owner’s sidekick. She had no idea about my family history, but I knew right then that was our name.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey, I’m Gabby! I’m an adventurist at heart. I love climbing mountains, floating rivers, exploring new cities, and capturing it all through my lens. I’ve always had a passion for telling stories and serving others. What started as a hobby behind the camera turned into a calling. Over time, that passion led me into marketing, specifically helping people build businesses that matter.
My husband Phil and I started Sidekick Creative Co. because we saw a big gap. There were high-ticket agencies that only worked with big budgets, and there were DIY tools that left business owners overwhelmed and stuck. We knew there had to be a better way.
We asked, What if we could come alongside business owners and wear one of their many hats? What if, instead of building a website, we could build a tool that worked for them 24/7? Instead of pushing out content to stay busy, what if we helped them create campaigns that told their story?
That’s what we do. We offer websites, branding, social media, and automation, all customized to each business’s goals. We sit down with business owners, talk through where they want to be, and build a plan to get them there. Whether it’s email follow-ups, text-back features for missed calls, or never having to schedule another meeting themselves, our goal is to make marketing make sense, and work hard, so they don’t have to.
We’re not here to be the loudest or the biggest. We’re here to be consistent, intentional, and real. We treat every client like a partner and every project like a mission.
If you’re clear on your purpose but need help showing up and being seen, that’s where we come in. We’re your sidekick. Let’s build something that lasts.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner is now my life partner. Phil and I crossed paths many times growing up. We went to high school 30 minutes from each other at schools that were in the same conference, attended a small university at the same time, and even shared mutual friends, but we never met. We finally met when we both interned at a local electric cooperative.
After working together for a year or so, we saw each other’s dedication and passion for serving and leaving things better than we found them. We had done marketing projects on the side, building websites, managing social media, and building brand guides, but we had never taken the leap to start a business.
After throwing the idea around, we decided to go for it. Not long after, we started dating and navigated the challenges of new business partners alongside new life partners. Long story short, we are now happily married and successfully running a business we are both extremely proud of together.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency and strategy are keys when growing on social media. I had been hot and cold on social for so long, especially after managing so many clients myself. The burnout was real. I even deleted the apps for quite some time. It wasn’t until I finally decided to commit to posting a reel every day for a year that I began to see growth. My advice for someone who is looking to grow their social media is to figure out what you want to talk about and why (a content tree), stay consistent (even when you don’t feel like it), and let go of the fear and rejection that will try to creep in. Social media is a harsh place; you’ve got to remember why you’re doing this, or it will consume you. My biggest piece of advice? Start today. There is no better time.
