Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabby Emslie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gabby, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Starting my business in the first place was a risk – I was committing time, money, and energy to something that I wasn’t sure was going to succeed. However, now almost 3 years later, I am so glad I took that first step. I have been enjoying running Rosy’s Donuts so much the past few years, and the itch to take the next step returned. It felt like the time was right for another risk – starting the process of buying a food trailer.
For months I was doing research, looking at dozens of used food trucks and trailers, and finally settled on a company nearby that builds food trailers from scratch. I had one foot in the door and one foot out, afraid to make the final commitment. This past month I decided to take the plunge – I got a loan, and started the building process! I’m very hopeful and excited for this next step, and it is a reminder that taking risks is necessary for furthering your dreams.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Gabby, and my whole life I have been a baker. My first job was at a local bakery after I graduated high school. I loved baking large quantities and seeing the joy the treats brought to customers. However, it was never my recipes or my ideas. As a creative person, I thrive when I can come up with things that are my own! When Covid first started, I decided to homeschool my then 1st grader; this required me to quit my job, which opened up a ton of free time. I was finally able to come up with baked goods that were my own recipe, flavors that I got to choose and make whenever I wanted! Starting Rosy’s Donuts (named after my daughter) was exciting, freeing, and so much fun. Now I get to make donuts every week!
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Luckily, my business partner is also my partner partner! I met Beck at the end of 2018 – we had mutual friends and both worked on the same block in the food/drink industry, so our paths were bound to collide eventually. We started dating shortly after, and have been together ever since. When I started Rosy’s Donuts, I didn’t tell anyone (including my family) until I was ready to launch the Facebook page and start selling. Beck has been there to support me through it all, and they help me with every event and pop-up.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I appreciate my clients so much, and feel as though a lot of them have become friends. I look forward to seeing the regulars, and enjoy meeting every new person who comes in. I think a big part of brand loyalty is kindness – being kind to customers, remembering what people like, making flavors that people request, going out of my way to accommodate orders or deliveries. I try to interact through our social media accounts as well, and really make people feel welcome when they come see us in person.
