We recently connected with Gabby Canario and have shared our conversation below.
Gabby, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
Most photographers take pictures and send a link or disk with their client’s photos, never seeing them again. I do things differently. I specialize in a full-service experience with luxury photographs. This means that I take care of the hair and makeup for my clients, provide an in-home styling appointment to put together outfits, and provide expert posing every step of the session. I then set up an “image viewing appointment” where they look at their images for the first time in the studio or the comfort of their own home. This is also where they finalize their order with custom handmade canvases for their walls and albums that last 200 years. All canvases are also professionally installed in their homes free of charge.

Gabby, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My love for photography started in 2014 after taking “photography 101” as an extra elective while pursuing nursing. I started just taking photos of walls, trees, and basically anything that moved. That same year, I dropped my phone in water and lost all of my son’s photos. I realized right then the importance and immeasurable value photographs hold. That is when my business was born. After having so many terrible past experiences with other studio companies, I vowed to create a unique 5-star experience for clients where its both fun, stress-free, and filled with amazing images and products to take home. My clients start their session shy and finish their experience feeling confident and excited to see themselves behind the camera.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing my clients faces when they view their images for the first time. Usually, they say “wow, that’s me? I look SO GOOD”. Having them light up as they flip through their printed album or when they hold a canvas of their kids, is so heartwarming.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Be yourself! There is no one like you. I used to hide from the camera or people for so long, scared of what others would say about me. Now I share personal and photo-related content and my followers love it. Most of my clients say they chose to reach out because of my funny personality and how relatable I am. The pretty images and fun experience was a bonus!
