Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to G Da Barber. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, G thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
If you’ve ever ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, you might recall that one task you assumed would be a breeze but turned out to be surprisingly challenging: naming your business. It’s akin to the monumental task every parent faces when naming their child. While some turn to family members for inspiration, I found my perfect business name through a serendipitous moment of faith.
One morning, during a lecture in my cosmetology class, we were reviewing definitions when a particular word caught my attention: “Cuticle.” Perhaps it was my Jamaican heritage, where pronouncing “cuticle” in Patois amusingly sounds like “CUTIE” Cal, or maybe it was the newfound understanding that the cuticle is an integral part of both skin and hair follicles.
It was then that inspiration struck. Earlier that week, in my barber class, we were tasked with building our brand, creating a business name, and designing a logo. Up until that point, I had simply gone by “G Da Barber.” But as I doodled in the corner of my notebook, the word “Therapy” emerged.
“Therapy for the Cuticle” didn’t quite fit, but as I pondered the word “THERA,” it resonated with a sense of empowerment. Pairing it with “CUTICLE” brought a harmonious blend of joy. In that moment, TheraCuticle was born—a name that perfectly encapsulates my vision.

In the heartwarming city of Pahokee, FL, a young soul named Gavin embarked on a journey filled with resilience and discovery. As the youngest of four, raised by a determined single mother from Bryans Pen, Jamaica, his path was shaped by humble beginnings and profound moments.
At the tender age of 10, a simple yet meaningful gift from his Grandfather set in motion a transformation that transcended haircuts – it ignited a passion for self-improvement and connection. Armed with his first pair of clippers, Gavin embarked on a personal odyssey, honing his craft until his skills spoke louder than any laughter.
Fast forward 22 years, from the fields of high school athletics to the corridors of collegiate ambition, Gavin found his true calling as The Mister Edward Waters College at Edward Waters College then/now University in Jacksonville, FL. Here, he uncovered not just a talent, but a rare gift – the ability to uplift spirits and spark profound conversations through the art of grooming.
Today, TheraCuticle stands as a beacon of inclusivity and transformation, a sanctuary where all are embraced and empowered. Reflecting on humble beginnings of late-night edits and early-morning refinements, I’ve evolved alongside social media. It wasn’t always about the views or likes, but a personal passion for the content I create. Realizing that authenticity is key, I shifted my focus to sharing experiences that resonate with others on a deeper level.
By staying true to my vision and creating content that speaks to both hearts and eyes, I’ve transformed my social media presence into a vibrant tapestry of inspiration and connection. Embracing this mindset has not only reshaped my approach to content but has also opened doors to a world of endless possibilities and meaningful interactions.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In the vibrant world of barbering, one profound lesson I’ve learned is to embrace the fact that “You Can’t Cut Everyone’s Hair.” Sounds crazy, right? But here’s the twist: this realization has unlocked a world of possibilities and excitement for me.
While physically impossible to trim the hair of every individual on this planet, I’ve discovered that the impact of my craft extends far beyond the reach of my clippers. With each view, each engagement, I’ve been able to share joy and satisfaction with millions, transcending physical boundaries.
So, while I may not physically touch everyone’s hair, I’ve found a way to touch their hearts and spirits, providing a virtual shape-up that uplifts and inspires. This revelation has brought a new sense of joy and purpose to my journey as a barber, reminding me that the impact of my artistry knows no bounds.
