We recently connected with Fritz Dannemiller and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Fritz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
We competed in the Tri-C high school rock off at the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 just before the pandemic, and we ended up winning first place out of all the bands that competed. When we prepared we thought we had no chance of even placing, but after all of the hard work we put in, we ended up taking home first prize. This was a defining moment for us that made us realize that we had something special and that we needed to pursue it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Detention is a pop-punk/easycore emo influenced band out of northeast Ohio. We’ve been playing together for about 6 years now. We met through living in Akron Ohio. We got into playing music from a love of playing and from family history of musicians in the cases of Elliott and Fritz. We strive to create music that creates fun energy while still touching on hard-hitting subjects. We are most proud during our live shows where we hope to create a energetic environment that makes people move!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew how amazing the music community was from a younger age. I would have been more involved earlier on if I knew that it was full of such great people. – Fritz Dannemiller
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of playing music is the connections and friendships you make through shared passion. As a music fan, I can see myself in all of the members of an audience or a crowded room before a show. It feels almost like a party where you already know you have something in common with everyone, and the friendships that can be made in that environment will last a lifetime. – Evan Cox
