FREEAKtheArtist, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Honestly there’s nothing else I would love to do other then this. Music is my first love and passion, so to be able to what i love all day as well as share it with fans is an amazing feeling. I worked a job for a few years and just didn’t feel like myself. In reality this is a job cause i have to put that extra work in to get my songs out and presence known. When you look at it I’m working 24/7.
FREEAKtheArtist, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Awe man this journey started back in the day when i was just 5/6 years old listening to Cannibus & Pharcyde. Ive always had an attraction to music since a kid so hearing these crazy funky beats and lyrics hooked me. So over years i took the time to listen to other artist at the time as well as coming up like Lil Wayne, Big K.R.I.T, Trae tha truth, Ice Cube, Snoop, etc. I can go on and on about who influenced and molded my style lol. One of the hardest skills to learn would’ve had to be balancing the passion from the business. At the end of the day its your passion but you must treat it like a business. I would say another challenge is the discipline about it; being able to stay focused on the goal not blinded by the money, cars, women, & parties. No matter what id say always focus on bettering your craft for yourself as well as the project you put together. Though at that moment you may be good there is always a next level. Don’t forget the little guys man i swear using these small blogs and promo companies/people has been a huge help in getting exposure for sure. I’ve seen artist down play these guys but hey are the backbone to your success; its the small committed crowds that follow you and help create your cult following. The biggest thing that sets me apart is the approachability i carry. I never wanted to be that stuck up I’m better then you type of guy so i funnel that through my artistry. My most proud moment has to be when im out and about and people see me and just walk up, to me that’s the best feeling cause it shows i give an inviting presence beyond the Artist life. I know other artist that approach me just for advice or just to talk and be cordial. Things like that is what makes me push myself to the max, with everything I do inside the music industry. I wanna set a new example of even though I’m a artist I’m still a Human, a man, & a person behind all the fame and money. Follow me for more things I’m venturing past just music so be on the look out for movie/tv show roles and more.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Gives the little guys/no-namers a try nobody wanna support you till you make it by then its too late. Some of the dopest people I’ve met have been small business owners, unknown artist and creators. I say as a society if we focus more on the come up rather then who is already established we’d spark a new level of creators.
How did you build your audience on social media?
CONSISTENCY there is no other way i can say it. My best friend told me to start my Social Media venture and of course I had reserves but he said “Look no matter what you do just be consistent the right fans and followers will come” looking back two years later that statement is true. Stay committed and don’t worry about peoples’ opinion if they have a opinion they listening remember that.
