We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Fredrick Gordon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Fredrick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

When I started my creative journey, I searched for a name that would embody my artistic individuality and stand the test of time, like the great artists and poets who came before me. I reflected on my life and meditated on the work I had accomplished with my books, “Moving Forward,” “Essence Of My Passion,” and “Black Soul.” As I worked on each piece, I drew on my emotions to create something unique. This reignited my passion and inspired me to choose the name Fred Poetichero as a representation of my artistic identity.

Fredrick, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Hi there! My name is Fred, and I’m an author and poet. It’s funny how life can take you on unexpected journeys. When I was younger, becoming a writer was the last thing on my mind. I was primarily focused on becoming a professional basketball player. However, a few friends of mine invited me to a spoken word event, and something about the way the performers expressed themselves through words really resonated with me. It was like they were baring their souls and having an intimate conversation with the audience. That night, I went home and started to write about the true aspects of my humanity. It was like something inside me had awakened, and I needed to transfer it onto paper. And that’s how I ended up in this industry.

I take great pride in having produced a work of art that will stand the test of time. My publications, namely “Moving Forward,” “Essence Of My Passion,” and “Black Soul,” are my crowning accomplishments as they epitomize my innermost being and humanity on this planet. As a black creative, you are privy to my world and perspective, and I am honored to share it with you.

To all my followers and fans, I want to emphasize that my work is a catalyst for greatness in anyone, regardless of their circumstances. You possess the power to accomplish anything you set your sights on, even amidst challenging situations. It’s your unwavering mindset and unyielding dedication that will enable you to surmount obstacles and achieve your aspirations. My brand is committed to fostering personal growth and pushing individuals to venture outside their comfort zones to experience the very best that life has to offer.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

One valuable lesson I’ve learned as I’ve matured is that success and failure are not polar opposites. In fact, failure is a crucial part of the journey to success. Previously, I was a person who craved immediate gratification, but I realized that this mindset was holding me back in life. I was too focused on receiving validation from others, even those who didn’t genuinely care about my personal growth. Now, I’m more focused on my own success and development, and I appreciate that failure is an inevitable aspect of the process.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Coming from Jamaica and migrating to the United States posed challenges in my life. At the time, English was not my first language, and I spoke Jamaican Patois, a broken form of English. As a result, it was difficult to make friends as I was not like the typical kid. I was tall and intelligent for my age, subject to ridicule and bullying every day. However, I persevered and learned the ways of life here in the States with time.
