We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fredii Belaire. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fredii below.
Fredii, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
From a young age, I’ve always been a free-spirited person. Getting into anything I could make time for. My childhood was filled with music, sports, books, and cartoons. The best part about having those early years to focus on anything I could was never feeling pressured to perform at a high level (although I really wanted to). That relief helped me learn self motivation through the years. I found out early that nothing is ever really given to you, you earn it. Even though I never felt the pressure, I always wanted to be the best version of myself and as a result my work followed.
My parents laid heavy roots for me to follow growing up; they play a huge role in how I move daily now. Arriving early, staying late, and being persistent were all things I grew accustomed to as a child. Carrying over those pillars into my adult lifestyle gave way for me to spread my wings in any industry I set foot in. I think they did a great job in raising me; still learning from them today. A great teacher never stops teaching and I am forever thankful to learn from them. They gave me autonomy at a young age and it instilled a hard work ethic in me. The entrepreneur lifestyle was something they were always used to and it definitely rubbed off on me.
The biggest advocates for my extracurriculars were for sure my parents. Anything I showed interest in, music/sports/academics, they made sure to show their full support. As a young boy I had many opportunities to stay creative and active at all times. Some of my earliest memories would be playing alto saxophone and drums for a few years before middle school; this is where I got some of my introduction into music. My mom used to take me to those lessons as I was learning to play. I had a Christmas show coming up one year and she always made sure I was on time to every session after school or on the weekends. I remember working hard in preparation for that one because it was my first time on stage solo! All the way up until the performance my parents endured countless days of me at home harshly practicing my piece for the show. When the day came for me to showcase what I had learned they were front row cheering me on; I played a great piece and we celebrated after. Couldn’t ask for more; that support I received then, not knowing that I would remember such a day, was life changing and it gave me confidence to continue doing what I found joy in. That wasn’t the last time either…I signed up for a talent show a few years later in middle school. Again my folks were front row while I covered Mario’s ‘Let Me Love You’. They support me through it all and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Today, as I’m on this journey as a creative, I think back on all those times they’ve been by my side. Reminiscing on those times help me to continue pushing forward in my career. That solid foundation is truly what allows me to build and plant seeds. Every time I take the stage or hop in the booth I’m in full confidence of what I can create. All while chasing my passions I stay true to who I am and take the most risk on myself. I’m most appreciative of the lessons they taught me because without those I wouldn’t be who I am today or do what I do.
Fredii, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Born and raised in Jacksonville, Fl, Fredii Belaire (f.k.a. Fredii B.) is an emerging independent artist/songwriter. A chill individual constantly searching for the next level. Since my early years I’ve always had a love for music; even the slightest tune could breeze by and I will find a way to sing, hum, whistle, or jigg to it. My parents exposed me to all kinds of great music and it didn’t matter where either; it could be on the ride to school or even on the weekend while I’m cleaning the house. There was never a limit on what or how much I could listen to. I’m really grateful for being introduced to high quality projects at an early age. Music in my world knows no bounds, anything could be worth vibing to if you listen openly.
Developing a love for music early in my life; I listened to any R&B, soul, or hip hop on the radio, on a CD, or on my MP3 player. Those influences helped shape the smooth rhythmic sound I look for today. With a detailed touch and natural ear, I knew I wanted to create my own vibes longterm. With my brand, I’m always looking for a sound that blends a laid back style of rap and soulful melody. The best vibes to me are not forced, they just feel right.
Not exactly my start in the industry but 2016 saw quite a few late nights of recording in a basement studio at Stetson University (my alma mater); those times definitely gave me enough interest in the craft to keep going. After I graduated college in 2017, I came back home to Jacksonville and started working for a few months. I ran into a few friends I had made before leaving town for school and we all had the same interest…Music! With that in mind we made music over the next few years. Releasing one solo project in 2018 and I haven’t released another since. Sharpening my skills, learning the craft, and learning my sound throughout the journey has been both an eye-opening and freeing experience. As I start to release new solo material, the process is the most fulfilling part of it all as I write and record my art. What sets me apart from others in the industry it would be my attention to detail and willingness to create outside my comfort zone.
As an independent artist I own and distribute all of my music. I take pride in this as I’m looking to leave my mark on the industry. The legacy I’m here to leave is much greater than me and I am aware of that. If I’m not uplifting others around me to live a positive limitless lifestyle, then I’m not doing it right in my opinion.
I’m most proud of my ability to create and its not a day that I take it for granted. The gift is precious to me and I will look to share it as much as possible in this lifetime. To me there isn’t any point in being selfish with the things we’re blessed with; we should always look give more than we take. I would want any future artists that I work with to know that I am dedicated to my passion and not what it can do for me. The brand that I represent is of unlimited potential and the work ethic to follow will mirror just that. I’m looking to create timeless music, vibes that you just can’t get away from. If it can’t be played at the cookout in 20 years I will lose interest fast. As I work more on my catalog and continue I journey, I’m looking to bring the best out of myself and others.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission while on this journey is to create with no limits. The best thing I can do for myself is not put myself in a box expecting something amazing to happen. Staying comfortable being uncomfortable and staying focused on making a position for myself. No sense in having the means to create and not taking the time to make something memorable.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to express my mind and life in a way that I communicate most…Music. Over time good music isn’t lost or forgotten. Being able to hop in the booth or even pen a vibe that catches ears every-time the beat drops is priceless. Timeless music has no limits! And striving for that will always allow me to bring the best out of myself.
