We were lucky to catch up with Frederick Reitz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Frederick , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you ever experienced an industry-wide U-Turn? Tell us about it?
Frederick Reitz, Director of Security at Magnifica Air, approaches aviation security with the clear understanding that the industry is shaped—and reshaped—by defining “U-turn” moments. Events such as September 11 attacks fundamentally transformed aviation security overnight, shifting the paradigm from convenience-driven travel to a hardened, intelligence-led system built on prevention and layered defense. Nearly two decades later, COVID-19 pandemic forced a second, equally profound recalibration—this time redefining not only health protocols, but passenger expectations, operational flexibility, and the integration of technology into the travel journey. Drawing on these industry inflection points, Reitz leads with a forward-looking philosophy at Magnifica Air: security must not simply react to the last crisis, but anticipate the next. His approach emphasizes adaptive systems, human factors awareness, and innovative screening concepts that align safety with a premium guest experience—ensuring the airline is resilient, compliant, and prepared for whatever the next industry “U-turn” may bring.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Frederick Reitz is a seasoned aviation security executive and currently serves as Director of Security at Magnifica Air, where he leads the development of the airline’s entire security, compliance, and emergency response framework from the ground up. His path into the aviation industry was shaped by a combination of operational experience, regulatory expertise, and a passion for safety and human-centered security. Early in his career, Frederick worked in high-tempo airline environments supporting TSA and FAA compliance, including leadership roles at major carriers and airports where he managed security operations, responded to real-time incidents, and supported large-scale regulatory programs. Those experiences—particularly managing inflight security events and operational disruptions—cemented his commitment to building smarter, more resilient aviation systems.
Today, Frederick specializes in designing security programs that go beyond compliance. At Magnifica Air, he is responsible for creating TSA-aligned security programs, FAA-compliant emergency response plans, and DOT-regulated drug and alcohol testing frameworks—all tailored to a premium airline model that integrates innovation such as private screening concepts and biometric identity solutions. His work focuses on solving one of aviation’s most complex challenges: how to deliver world-class security without compromising the guest experience. He believes security should be seamless, intelligent, and proactive—not intrusive or reactive.
What sets Frederick apart is his ability to bridge regulatory rigor with operational practicality and customer experience. He has successfully developed and implemented security manuals and programs that meet federal requirements on first submission—an uncommon achievement in a highly scrutinized industry. He is also deeply engaged in advancing the conversation around human factors in aviation security, particularly in areas like unruly passenger behavior, crew conflict resolution, and post-incident mental health support.
Frederick is most proud of building systems that protect both people and operations—whether that’s launching a new airline’s security infrastructure, leading crisis response initiatives, or mentoring teams to operate with confidence and clarity under pressure. He wants clients, colleagues, and industry partners to know that his work is grounded in integrity, precision, and forward-thinking leadership. His brand represents a commitment to raising the standard of aviation security—making it not only stronger, but smarter, more adaptive, and aligned with the future of air travel.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Early in my aviation career, I was working in a high-pressure airport environment when we experienced a cascade of operational disruptions—weather delays, crew timing issues, and a particularly difficult inflight situation that resulted in an unscheduled return and a tense deplaning. Passengers were frustrated, crews were exhausted, and multiple agencies were involved. At the time, I was still proving myself in a leadership capacity, and it would have been easy to defer or step back. Instead, I stepped into the coordination role—working directly with flight crews, station operations, and security partners to stabilize the situation, ensure compliance, and most importantly, de-escalate tensions safely and professionally.
What made that moment defining wasn’t just the complexity of the event—it was the realization that leadership in aviation security isn’t about having perfect conditions, it’s about bringing structure to chaos. I had to make decisions with incomplete information, communicate clearly under pressure, and support both passengers and employees who were at their limits. By the end of the night, we had resolved the situation without escalation, protected the operation, and maintained regulatory compliance.
That experience shaped how I lead today. Resilience, to me, is the ability to stay composed, think critically, and act decisively when everything around you is uncertain. It’s also about learning from those moments and building systems—like the emergency response frameworks I now develop at Magnifica Air—that ensure teams are better prepared the next time.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What has truly shaped my reputation in this industry goes back long before aviation—it started with my father. He led by example, not with titles or authority, but with character. He taught me that being kind is not a weakness, it’s a strength; that how you treat people—especially in difficult moments—is what defines you. Watching him consistently show respect, care, and integrity toward others built the foundation for how I approach both life and leadership.
In aviation, especially in security, you are constantly working in high-stress, high-stakes environments where people are at their worst—delays, fear, frustration, uncertainty. What has set me apart is staying grounded in those early lessons: treating people with dignity, listening, and showing genuine care, even when enforcing strict regulatory requirements. Over time, that has built a reputation for being someone who is not only dependable and competent, but also fair and human.
Honesty has been another cornerstone. In this industry, credibility is everything—whether you’re working with regulators, executives, or frontline teams. I’ve always believed in being transparent, even when the message is difficult, and following through on commitments. That consistency builds trust, and trust is what people remember.
Ultimately, I think my reputation comes down to a combination of being dependable, approachable, and genuinely invested in people. I don’t see security as just compliance or enforcement—I see it as protecting people, supporting teams, and doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Those values, instilled early on, have carried through every role I’ve held and continue to guide how I lead today.
