Today we’d like to introduce you to Frederick Durham.
Hi Frederick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography at a very young age with just a small digital camera that my grandfather bought me. At that time i didn’t know I really had an interest for photography it was just something to do to keep me occupied at family events and different outings. Like most people in life I eventually veered off into to other interest in hobbies. Photography didn’t strike my mind again until I was in college looking to change my major that’s when I seen a photography course available and I decided to give the camera thing a chance again. Once I picked the camera back up again and started photographing again that’s when I realized that I had a true hidden talent that I never got the chance to expose to the world. After my first year of college I decided to return home and continue my photography career. Upon returning home I started showcasing my photography in different galleries around the city.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely was not a smooth road it was lots of valleys and peaks. Some of the struggles that I encountered along the way were simple but very valuable struggles. So in that sense I don’t really look at them as struggles I look at them more as lessons. They are lessons because they are mistakes and challenges that you have endured and learned how to handle and encounter. But I feel like my biggest struggle starting out was actually getting someone who believed in my vision and believed in my art and understood where I was coming from as an artist. Also it was about someone willing to give me that chance and opportunity especially being as young as I was and being an amateur at the time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So I specialize in photography, my main style and what I’m known for best is I would say my mix between landscape photography and street photography and also collages. Honestly the main thing that I’m most proud of is the colors in my photos me personally I think it’s fascinating how each color has like its own my moment in the photo but they all come together and play off each other to create one piece.
What sets me apart from others from others is I’m not in the same lane as them. What I mean by that is I’m not just a photographer who books shoots and lives in a studio or strictly does a specific style or shoot. I’m a photographer yes but I’m a artist so to me every shot counts there is that perfect shot it may not be to others but to me this is something that I’m creating and sharing with the world. It’s not about the shoots and how booked I am it’s about the creating and showing your skills, your point of view, your passion. That’s what sets me apart from others. I truly love the art and have the passion to create.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to support me is by following my instagram page and by getting on my website and purchasing art. Any collaborations interest you can direct message me or email me whatever ideas you have and we can brainstorm and go from there.
