We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Frederic Payet. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Frederic below.
Alright, Frederic thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
After I moved to the USA in 1989. I started working for my uncle’s gallery in Atlanta GA in 1991. I was not an artist and certainly did not know anything about painting.
I was suddenly taken by all the beautiful painting and I had an urge to paint. I bought supply and did my first painting. Intuitively I knew how to mix colors and apply paint.
A lady came in the gallery and saw my work. She said I love it. How much ? I thought first she was kidding because I did not feel it was good enough. So I said to her, well I am not sure how much and I don’t know if I want to sell it.
She said everything is for sell for the right price. So I said ok what about $100. She said sold. This was my first experience as a professional artist.
After that I met a French artist that help me with different techniques and started to create my own unique still using palette knife technique. I went on doing art festivals all over the USA for 20 years and finally settled down in Asheville NC where I opened my own gallery.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Over the last 27 years my work improved by practicing, learning about the business side of it. My work is considered as happy, luminous and has a lot of energy. My repeat clients always tell me that they feel happy to stare my paintings. For me this is the most important statement.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Like I mentioned before my goal is to bring joy, happiness and self healing by using colors.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
You have to keep posting your work, showing it and even adding stories to keep people interested.
