Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fred Addison. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Fred thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge to profitability in my industry is insurance cost along with fuel cost. Insurance for your vehicle no matter if it is a cargo/sprinter van, box truck or semi is a huge challenge to obtain and maintain profitability in my industry. All states are different; however, the cost of insurance to operate a vehicle over the road is a huge expense. It is an expense that even with a good driving record and good credit is still unavoidable. If you are not properly prepared to handle this expense, it will cut into any profits you can expect. A second challenge to profitability is the cost of fuel. Since COVID and other unforeseen issues, the cost of fuel is steadily climbing. In some states, you may find relief, but in other states it can be massive. Drivers are able to obtain fuel cards, but these cards normally have to be paid in full within 7-14 days of usage.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Fred Addison of Top Tier Atlanta Transport, LLC. I serve business owners by transporting freight and other items that need to be delivered from one location to another in a timely manner. I specialize in LTL (less than a load) freight. I have lately tapped into assisting event planners and e commerce business owners by delivering the items needed to be successful in their business. I realized that event planners need to move all of their party items from storage facilities to venues and love assisting them with getting this done. I have several clients that sell online and want to get items purchased to their customers same day or next day without having to use the major companies. These partnerships have helped me gain a new presence in my market. I am most proud of believing in myself to start my own company and becoming creative when business is slow instead of giving up and throwing in the towel. I have learned to bet on myself and stay focused on my why. Most importantly, I love delivering for my customers and leaving them fully satisfied.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency I have been there for my clients whenever I am needed and it’s always with great customer service and efficient and fast pick ups and deliveries.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn was that if you do everything by the book that you will have no issues. I was always under the impression that if you followed all the instructions as you should and did everything by the book, then everything would be fine. I didn’t realize the gray areas and that no matter what things will always be come up. I now know that it’s not what happens, but how you react to what happens that determines what happens next. Once I realized that, even though still learning this, it has made me a better person in life and in business.
