We were lucky to catch up with Frantrell Windom recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Frantrell thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
The most important lesson I learned is that I did not want to work for anyone, but myself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a resident of Mississippi currently enrolled at “Thee I Love” Jackson State University. I started my business when I was enrolled in junior college mainly because of feedback I received from my peers when I took photos of them. Eventually, I worked with mentor in his studio which was the icing on the cake. Francois Visuals was established and I have been building my brand since then. My clients are not put in a box meaning I offer the freedom and flexibility to capture their personalities in any way they can imagine without judgement. That is what sets me apart from the traditional photographer. I also give back to my clients while highlighting our HBCU’s culture. I am grateful for my social media following and clients for believing in me. One of my proudest moments as a professional photographer is that I am capable of orchestrating massive gatherings of youths to shine a positive light on life.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I feel that i received a boost as it relates to my reputation as a photographer when I started highlighting my clients on my Instagram page. Not only did I include local clients, but there were also celebrity clients included which was the perfect mix for the youth of today. An added bonus was that I was known on the campus of JSU by numerous students as the go to guy for photos prior to my enrollment
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth has been the most profitable way of gaining new clients for me. Client referrals is what I’m referring to.
