We recently connected with Frannie Foltz and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Frannie, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
I am intentional listener. When I have a conversation with someone, I like to make mental notes while speaking with them that demonstrate I am listening and further enhance the conversation. After our chat is over, I write notes to chronicle the conversation and use these as referencing points for future conversations and/or meaningful experiences so that the person feels seen, valued, and appreciated.
For example, on my podcast, I would ask guests their favorite dessert, candy, movie, song, scripture, etc… and I would find a way to send a thank you gift that demonstrated their interests. For one guest, I sent a package of Hi-Chew candies, another a spiral-bound journal with her favorite scripture, and another, I designed a thank you card in Canva with Star Wars characters–his favorite movie. And of course, they always are accompanied by hand-written thank you note, which seem to be gestures of the past. These simple touches go a LONG way when it comes to building relationships.
Similarly, when hosting women’s retreats and workshops, I write hand-written notes to participants, have their favorite snack and/or beverage on hand and more. I simply send a survey in advance and am able to use their responses for the event and future interactions with the clients/attendees.

Frannie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m just a small town girl from Pennsylvania with a BIG dream to help others discover their gifts and activate their dreams.
I am a former classroom teacher and educational administrator, so the teacher in me loves helping others actualize their potential.
In 2015, I left the world of academia and began my business, Shine with Frannie. Initially, it was a God-inspired call to help others get healthier, stronger and more confident. It has taken some detours over the years, as I realized that to become healthy, strong, and confident, you needed to explore who are at your core, what you wanted in your life, and devise a strategy to “get there!”
I started hosting women’s workshops and retreats where we spend time getting clear on these things so we can step into the destiny God calls us!
While there are a number of health and wellness retreats for women, I believe that my ability to help others feel seen, valued and appreciated, while reconnecting with their playful self is what sets me apart. I love to have fun and create spaces for others to laugh and enJOY life!~

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
It is imperative to have right thinking for right living.
Our minds are extremely powerful, and the thoughts we think direct our actions; unfortunately many of the actions I was taking were rooted in fear, unworthiness and unbelief. These vices stemmed from childhood trauma and were part of my DNA. But good news–we can rewire our brains and our bodies to think and respond differently!
Retraining my thoughts began with unlearning beliefs. I am still a work in progress, but I’m making strides everyday to believe I am worthy and capable of success!

How did you build your audience on social media?
I am a firm believer that you don’t need 100K+ followers to build a business or a brand. I have sold out retreats and earn $10K months with less than 3K Instagram followers and 4,000 Facebook followers.
The one thing I would say is BE AUTHENTIC!
Share your passions, interests, and the pretty parts and the ugly ones, too.
It’s ok if you post your faith or political views–if you’re passionate about it, share.
Good marketing will attract the right people and repel the wrong ones.
Being you makes you real and relatable.
One of the best compliments I receive when people meet me who’ve followed me on social is, “You are the same in person as you are online.”
My best advice to start building a social media presence is to learn to be a good story teller.
People are captivated by stories and remember them more easily than facts.
