We were lucky to catch up with Frankie Garcés recently and have shared our conversation below.
Frankie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
During the inception of Good Omen Pictures, our primary focus was the establishment of a robust team, whether as a solitary endeavor or with a collective right from the outset. The journey was marked by significant milestones, a lot like assembling the pieces of a puzzle when selecting those initial team members.
In the early days, certain individuals came to mind whom I envisioned officially joining the Good Omen family. They were instrumental during the chaos period of launching a business, they’re like family. However, these individuals chose distinct paths, and I wholeheartedly support their endeavors.
Good Omen Pictures stands as a distinctive organization, grounded in a unique brand identity that emanates from within. It is built upon unwavering honesty and a commitment to a purpose beyond personal pursuits, a realization that unfolds gradually. Over the past four years, we have had the privilege of collaborating with individuals who expressed interest in formalizing their association with the company. (We work with teams of 30 – 50 crew members from every department.). Lucky for me, many of these individuals, with whom meaningful collaborations were established, have officially joined the ranks of Good Omen Pictures.
Leadership within the company requires a comprehensive understanding of various business facets. Those in close proximity often become indispensable contributors to the journey. I’m deeply grateful to my three Producing Partners, remarkable individuals whom I’ve known for many years.
I’m still searching for a sort of counterpart within the company that can lend a unique perspective and keep us navigating towards our brand’s true identity. I know that person will make themselves known to me when the time is right.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Good Omen Pictures, established in 2019, is a trailblazing film production company that stands as a beacon of authenticity and diversity in the entertainment industry. Founded with a resolute commitment to bringing compelling and genuine stories to the forefront, Good Omen Pictures has swiftly earned a reputation for producing thought-provoking and emotionally resonant films that captivate audiences worldwide.
Driven by a visionary team of industry veterans and creative minds, Good Omen Pictures embraces the power of storytelling as a catalyst for change and understanding. With a keen eye for discovering narratives that reflect the rich tapestry of human experiences, the company has consistently pushed boundaries and shattered stereotypes, delivering cinematic masterpieces that ignite conversations and foster community through innovative production.
At the heart of Good Omen Pictures’ ethos lies a dedication to amplifying diverse voices, both in front of and behind the camera. By championing underrepresented talents and underscoring authentic perspectives, the company has successfully transformed the landscape of contemporary filmmaking. This commitment to inclusiveness resonates deeply throughout every project, infusing each production with an unmistakable and compelling sense of reality.
As a driving force in the industry, Good Omen Pictures continues to evolve and expand its horizons, always searching for narratives that challenge conventions and inspire change.
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
At present, Good Omen is actively diversifying its revenue streams. The company currently operates through three distinct branches: narrative production, branded story, and personal legends.
These branches share core values centered around meticulous processes and a commitment to delivering high-quality content. We’ve been fortunate to collaborate with partners who share our dedication to positive change.
While our primary focus is film production, leveraging decades of industry experience, we’re expanding our offerings. Good Omen Pictures is in the process of curating and packaging templates derived from our own successful practices. This includes pitch deck documents, LUTS, and various merchandise. Soon, our website will serve as a hub for these tried-and-true production methods and business strategies.
Our goal is to empower fellow filmmakers and creatives by providing tools to enhance their efficiency and project value. Through these templates, we aim to enable individuals to reclaim control of their time, allowing them to refocus on the creative aspects that truly matter. It’s all about bringing more value to projects and fostering a creative environment for everyone involved.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Securing the initial capital for Good Omen was a mix of sheer hard work and a touch of good fortune. At this stage, we’ve deliberately refrained from seeking external investors, prioritizing the establishment of our brand before opening up to external funding. We’re taking the time to refine our systems and nurture meaningful relationships that hold significant value for us.
The initial financing stemmed from our involvement in various production sets – from independent companies to music videos and commercials. The journey has allowed us to scale up to a point where we can be discerning about the projects we undertake.
Filmmaking, even at the independent level, comes with its financial challenges. Innovation often requires the right kind of gear, which can be quite expensive to acquire or rent. Fortunately, our extensive network of friends within the industry has been instrumental. They’ve generously contributed their gear, skills, and experience at a fraction of their standard rates, for which we are truly grateful.
I hold a personal reluctance to bring anyone onto a Good Omen set without compensating them for their time and value. This philosophy extends across the company – we believe in paying people who work with us, even if it’s not at their full rate. We understand that this commitment to fair compensation builds loyalty, an investment that pays off as we embark on larger-scale film projects.
Recently, a national brand returned to collaborate with us for the year 2024, and I’m thrilled to share that everyone who worked with us on the project in 2023 is returning. This continuity brings me immense satisfaction, reinforcing the value of our relationships and the quality of our work.
