We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Frankie Carman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Frankie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
Every year I host two parties to show appreciation for all of my clients!
The first of which is our Anniversary Party for Frankie’s Fitness, which we just celebrated our 5th year in business! Providing everyone with real results and making them feel included into our family unit have been a couple keys to success for this long . . And we’re only getting started.
The second is our Customer Appreciation Party. I love this one as my wife and I supply all of the food and drinks for everyone, being our down to earth way of saying thank you! Thank you for putting food on our family’s table every single week. Thank you for providing a future for our children. Thank you for showing up every week and giving it your all. And thank you for entrusting your fitness to me and knowing I will never steer you wrong 💪🏻☘️💪🏻💚
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Coach Frankie, Owner and Head Coach of Frankie’s Fitness 💪🏻☘️💪🏻🇺🇸 I got started coaching in the fitness industry about 10 years ago. I learned many different aspects of being a coach, owning your own fitness business, programming workouts, etc. from my previous employer who owned his own gym.
When the day came to sit down and come to the ultimate conclusion of whether I would stick with what was familiar to me for about 5 years of my coaching career, or dive into the unknown and start my own business . . I made the decision to give it one hundred percent and no matter what I was never going to quit on this dream.
I went in to starting my company with the mindset that . . This was the ultimate dream of mine: to help others change their lives for the better. From the day I sat down and drew out my logo on a piece of construction paper, to this day 5 years later. I focus on the singular goal of helping to improve everyone’s health and fitness mentally and physically day in and day out with real results!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what has ultimately helped my business is having a positive and uplifting attitude to help my clients through whatever struggles they may be going through in life; by helping my clients achieve real results . . Again that is the very first reason they’re seeking out a trainer in the first place! Everyone is looking for someone to help them achieve not only physical results (relieving pain from new or old injuries, lose body fat, gain muscle definition, etc.) but it’s also the mental results that come with the physical. The feeling of accomplishment for pushing yourself to do things you didn’t think were possible without injury, or to wipe out the stress you’ve been dealing with from work, or to go home to your family after a hard workout and loving on them for all that they do for you, etc.
This is what has helped me build my brand and reputation throughout all of North Phoenix. Good people experiencing results they want to share with others 💪🏻💚💯
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One thing that comes to mind immediately is when I started my company, with zero income coming in, I drove to every single business in my area including other home owners associations and started shaking hands! I walked into every business and neighborhood I could think of and gave them my elevator pitch just so I could post my homemade flyer on their window, news board, even side of a trash cans if that was the only place they would allow me to put it! I asked questions, thought of creative ways I could be an asset to their clientele, etc. I believe my resilience to not leave that establishment unless I could place some piece of Frankie’s Fitness there and share my story with them/vision of the future of this company helped me face even tougher future challenges down the road.
