We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Frank Sykes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Frank, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
The day that I realized that artist were not the best people to deal with in business. Especially when it comes down to the best artist. I took a big lost thinking that artist knew what they should know about the business of being an artist. They didn’t have a clue. I spent many years listening to the complaints that artist had about being cheated, being taken advantage of, being used, that if formed me to believe that they were knowledgeable about the things that was happening in the business. So with this knowledge that I had at the time, I took a leap into the business world of changing the game and treating the artist more like business partners, than like managed clients. Man was I wrong to do this!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve been around it my entire life at some level or another. I was acting in stage plays in high school, drummer boy in Christmas plays, an athlete since the age of 8, and all of these things groomed me into knowing the business of being in production either as a player, actor, or production as a whole.
I watched my mentor very closely as he himself was on TV for the one man plays that he produced. This man is known as the one and only Dr. Cornelius of Columbia Central High School. Being in drama class and a part of Elevated Young Minds I had a very early start at what productions looked like, and what it entailed, which lead me up to creating and operating Frizzy Productions in 2017.
Creatively this business is built catering to combining poetry and marketing together. My clients are those that have an interest in poetry and becoming a spoken word artist, as well as other businesses that are looking for creative ways to put their business out in front of my audience. It’s what keeps revenue cycling back into artist that creatively grab the attention of the people and then provide them with creative marketing that fuels loyal customers for the businesses.
The thing that I want them to know is that this is system is setup to have help. When you provide a helpful solution to another’s problem you streamline yourself to success. So if you are a poet, learn the power of your words and the people that they can impact, and then turn on the opportunity to use that as your vehicle to being paid by other businesses that need your reach. If you are the business, I need you to understand the importance of your time to conduct your business and also how important it is to have your products seen, and find the best plan that works for your exposure.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Environment is strong and impactful.
I have many stories and experiences to explain how the lesson came about.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Yes I can. Doing exactly what I do on stage is the example of resilience.
