Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Frank Pascarella. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Frank , appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I think I knew I wanted to pursue being a musician/artist professionally once I began getting notoriety from my peers about how good I was at networking, managing a project, booking my own shows and things of that nature. It helped me notice and realize how good I was at talking to other business professionals when it comes to business transactions. For myself personally as a solo artist I have invested a large amount of money into the project for things such as graphic design, music videos, recording sessions, writing sessions and even more things. There’s a lot that goes into being a well oiled machine especially if you’re in the creative industry.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey into the music industry began at a young age, attending local shows and being captivated by the energy and creativity of live performances. It was June of 2012 when I attended my very first local show, featuring The Bunny The Bear and Modern Day Escape at Club Infinity. This experience ignited my passion for music and live performances.
Over the years, I immersed myself in the local music scene, attending numerous shows and connecting with various bands and promoters. In 2013, a pivotal moment occurred when I attended a Beartooth show, part of their very first tour, at The Waiting Room. This electrifying experience not only showcased Beartooth’s powerful performance but also marked the beginning of significant connections within the music community.
At that show, I had the opportunity to meet various individuals, including local bands, fans, and promoters. It was a moment of inspiration that fueled my passion for music and live performances. The energy and enthusiasm of the crowd, coupled with Beartooth’s impactful performance, left a lasting impression on me and solidified my desire to be a part of the music industry.
In the following years, I continued to be actively involved in the local music scene, forming my first band, Autumn’s Arrival, with some close friends. Although we faced challenges and setbacks, our aspirations remained strong. Between 2012 and 2015, Autumn’s Arrival aimed to play shows, but unfortunately, our efforts didn’t materialize. Despite setbacks, my passion for music persisted.
After taking some time away from the band scene, Autumn’s Arrival was reformed and rebranded as From the Branches of Tide. From 2017 to 2019, we actively performed, playing memorable venues such as Stamps the Bar, Mohawk Place, and Buffalo Iron Works. However, creative differences and maturity issues led to the band’s dissolution in June 2019.
Following the breakup, I embarked on a solo journey under the moniker Vertigo Child. In August 2019, I wrote my first single, “If You Feel Lonely,” as a means to cope with personal struggles, including depression and heartbreak. Initially, Vertigo Child was a therapeutic outlet, but its unexpected positive reception propelled it into a serious project.
Since 2020, I’ve released 13 songs, each reflecting my personal journey and emotional experiences. Collaborating with talented creatives such as Mike the Mix, RJ DeMarco, and others, I’ve honed my sound and expanded my reach. Despite the challenges, I’ve played 11 shows as Vertigo Child, including performances at notable venues like Buffalo Iron Works and Mohawk Place.
Looking ahead, I’m thrilled to announce the upcoming release of my new record, “Love Isn’t Blind,” set to debut on May 24. The creative process behind this album was transformative, and I’m eager for listeners to connect with its raw emotion and introspective themes. As I continue to evolve as an artist, I’m committed to pushing boundaries and sharing my authentic voice with the world.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Honestly I would have to say when listeners/my audience are able to resonate with what I’ve created. There’s no greater feeling in the world knowing that someone is able to connect with something you worked very hard on. Whether it made them feel something or they just relate to it to some extent. For me that is why I continue to do what I do.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
For me, it all started out in Facebook groups and being connected with other artists/bands. I was very fortunate to be a part of the group called Band Academy that was created and run by Joey Sturgis (renowned music producer) and Tyler Smyth (vocalist of Dangerkids/music producer). I met a lot of bands that I am friends with to this day through that group. I’ve also been in and out of other groups that helped me build my audience. The best way to really grow is audience is probably word of mouth and going out to shows/networking events and meeting people.
