We recently connected with Frank Melero and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Frank thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
It all started with a series of conversations about creating an environment that thrived on success and lifting people up without selling out to greed or money in the process. These conversations were about 15+ years ago and were with my long time friend and hair stylist – Lorena Garcia (who is now our salon’s general manager at our full service beauty salon – Seras Salon.)

Frank, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Fast forward several years from those conversations and you can now read the below “mission statement in the waiting room of our full-service beauty salon in Northridge….Seras Salon!
“We believe in Us”
It’s more than just a cheesy moto. It’s arguably what we lack at times in a seemingly broken world – the idea of us, united. Imagine if WE collectively helped each individual in their journey of growing into their best self possible? Like really, imagine if differences weren’t a breaking point but, rather, celebrating them together in this one life was the exact starting point for a better, healthier story?!
“Seras” in Spanish is translated into “You Will” in English. Well, I wrote a book to my 2 children a while back called “You Will – Memoirs of a Loving Father” on these lessons and published it thinking this was my only way of contributing to this type of change in our thought process. And this salon is my way of trying to bring my book to life. Because we believe that you can be great, and one of the first steps in greatness is doing you part to take care of yourself…And we, at Seras Salon, will help you do exactly that! So, this is our salon doing its part in helping you in your story. We hope to help you find the most beautiful, perfectly imperfect yet promising you!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I worked at Fox in senior management for 13+ years prior to telling Disney “no thanks” regarding taking a position working for them after their blockbuster studio acquisition.
Like, who says “no” to Disney?
And then puts their severance package into buying, fully renovating and launching a small business (beauty salon) exactly at the beginning of our historical global “COVID” pandemic?!?
Me. I did. (Side note – don’t ever do that…Haha)

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Following your dreams is HARD! Like, it’s really hard to run a brick and mortar business in this day and age in Los Angeles!
But it’s very rewarding on a different scale. And it’s hard breaking up with the concept of only monetary success or value. So it’s still crazy having your day made by clients or stylist telling you how impressed they are with the vibe, feel and environment of our joint.
