We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Frank Lewis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Frank , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I worked with a client for 3 months, once a week..At the end she told me that she have been on disability for 10 years..we worked on on neck with a modality called Spinal synchronization. She then told me she was going to apply to be a pilot again. She took her medical and passed and went back to flying and she became a captain..i am happy i was part of that journey with her.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Frank Lewis and i am costarican and i am a License massage therapist and also a NCB national certified board therapist. I became a massage therapist in 2008. Back home i played professional basketball and i got injured..I remember a coworker Fernando Salas got be back on track after a month..and i wanted to honor his help by helping other people that crossed my path. In the office i practice Deep tissue massage, swedish massage, sport massage, neuromuscular massage, and Spinal synchronization stretch therapy for the cervical. One of my main thing is that i treat people like human beings, not a number and by that i mean i listen to what are there needs. I also explain to them what is it i can do. Most important i remain Frank with them.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I remember there was a time i was working for 3 locations. I would travel from home to work 21 miles first Job.. second job i drove about 29 miles and when i was done i drove back to the 3rd job another 40 miles..and this i would do it 3 times a week, because i never had that many clients, but i new i had to survive . I was very tired but not discouraged, because i knew the work would pay one day..and it did. I never chased money, i chased knowledge..I knew if i learned enough , i could help more people in the different settings… Clinical and spa..And that day came in November of 2018..on Thanksgiving and i had a lot of thanks to give.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I think for me along my journey i had to learn to say no, because i always say yes .and also learn that not everything i would be able to solve, in spite of my desire to help.. i learned that most people would like a microwave fix(now) and the body don’t work that way..it takes time to heal. I tell my clients, you are a human being not a human doing..seek a work, life balance.
