Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Frank Bauer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Frank , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
In March 2017 I was in 37 and thought about my 40s, 50s and 60s since they were so close by. As a construction worker, I felt this wouldn’t be my “Dream Job” to retire from, nor would it be good for my body. At that moment I thought about what I really enjoy doing most, and that’s entertaining people. Making people laugh is something I was accustomed to and the more they laughed the more I was satisfied.
Frank , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up as the “CLASS CLOWN” I was the “go-to guy” when people wanted to laugh. This carried on to the neighborhood, to jobs and throughout the family while I was growing up. I had nicknames for myself and I had humorous friends to share jokes with back home. Everyday after work we’d get together and fuel each other with humor as a norm. I did corny dances, and animated responses naturally like I was never off stage. In 2017 I began acting classes in San Diego and in 2018 I took Commercial Audition classes. I then started submitting online and driving to Los Angeles to audition. I’d say I got 1 out of 15 that I auditioned for and one day I became Sag-Aftra Eligible. This was a Gigantic breakthrough for beginners since it’s the bridge to becoming a “Professional Artist” and being recognized in the industry.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The biggest “Pivot” in this journey was when the Pandemic occurred. We went from 3-4 auditions per week and working 6 days a week to 1 audition per month and working 1 day every 2 months. All the Studios on Sunset Blvd that I use to audition at were closed down and we began performing virtually. This virtual auditioning process came with new protocalls and learning how to use certain software to store and transfer along with Naming and other specifications.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I can’t say there’s an actual “Goal” driving my mission as a creative since it’s an indefinite journey, but I can say there’s plenty of self established levels of confidence and clarity.
