We were lucky to catch up with Frank Anthony Ramos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Frank, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I had the chance to start my business all over again, there are several key aspects I would approach differently to ensure a smoother and more successful journey. Firstly, I would prioritize distinguishing between what is simply “nice to have” versus what is truly essential for the business. This clarity would help me allocate resources more efficiently and focus on building a solid foundation.
Secondly, I would place a strong emphasis on systemizing two critical areas: marketing and the sales process. By developing streamlined strategies and processes for these functions, I would establish a consistent and effective approach to attract customers and convert leads into sales. This systematic approach would save time, minimize errors, and enhance overall productivity.
Thirdly, I would dedicate significant attention to identifying the specific problem that my services aim to solve. Understanding the target audience’s pain points and needs would allow me to tailor my offerings to address these issues effectively. Additionally, I would focus on identifying individuals or businesses that genuinely value these services and possess the necessary budget to invest in their resolution. By narrowing down the ideal customer profile, I could optimize marketing efforts and increase the likelihood of conversions.
These three interconnected steps—prioritizing essentials, systemizing marketing and sales, and identifying the target audience—would work together harmoniously to lay the groundwork for a successful business. Implementing these changes from the beginning would help me run operations more smoothly, establish a strong market presence, and ultimately deliver value to those who truly need and appreciate my services.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey began in 2017 when I delved into the world of digital marketing. Back then, I believed it was an untapped career path with immense potential, as businesses were in dire need of establishing a strong digital presence. Eager to learn, I immersed myself in all aspects of content creation and soon discovered my knack for filming behind the camera. My strategic thinking kicked in as I realized how to leverage content to build awareness, trust, and credibility.
By 2020, armed with my trusty Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, I decided to take my videography skills to the next level and invested in a Canon M50. The year brought the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which I was working part-time at T-Mobile. With slow days in the store, I utilized my time to research and develop my own brand, which I named Mediji Media. My train of thought was simple: “All I need is a service to sell, and I’m already selling for others.” Looking within my network, I started offering pro-bono work for a thriving event-planning business, recognizing them as the “Big Fish.” As I filmed for them, the relationship evolved into a strategic partnership, opening doors to bigger brands.
In 2022, I reached a milestone by sponsoring a major event called The Event Planner Expo in New York. This opportunity allowed me to connect and build relationships with influential individuals such as Jason Feifer, Chief Editor of Entrepreneur Magazine, Mario Armstrong from NeverSettle Show, Caspian Agency, and many others. The success continued into 2023, as I find myself sponsoring and speaking on the same stage as Gary Vee at the Event Planner Expo in October 2023.
Towards the end of 2022, after insightful conversations with Mario and learning from Jason Feifer’s book, I realized it was time to level up my business. I no longer saw myself as just a freelance videographer but rather as a businessman and marketer. The industry had become saturated with videographers, filmmakers, and content creators, decreasing the demand compared to the boom of 2020 and 2021. To create a higher demand for my services, I delved into extensive research and sought mentorship from others. Through this journey, I discovered the four foundational pillars of business: systemization, financial management, customer mastery, and an executive team. Understanding and implementing these pillars transformed my business and paved the way for remarkable growth.
With these strategies in place, I expect my business to surpass half a million by the end of 2024. My journey has been one of continuous learning, adaptation, and seizing opportunities. From humble beginnings as a digital marketing enthusiast to becoming a respected entrepreneur in the videography world, I am grateful for the experiences and lessons that have shaped me into the professional I am today.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In late 2022, after engaging in conversations with Mario and learning from Jason Feifer’s book, I underwent a transformative shift in my business approach. I realized that merely considering myself a freelance videographer was limiting, and instead, I adopted the mindset of a businessman and marketer. With a growing saturation of videographers and content creators, I recognized the need to generate higher demand for my services. Through extensive research, mentorship, and self-reflection, I identified four fundamental pillars of business: systemization, financial management, customer mastery, and building an executive team. Implementing these pillars became pivotal in propelling my business forward, setting the stage for substantial growth and a projected revenue of over half a million by the end of 2024.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Learning to leverage pictures and brands on pitch decks has been instrumental in building my reputation within the market. Pitch decks are powerful tools for conveying information, making an impact, and securing business opportunities. By incorporating visually appealing and well-curated images, along with reputable brand associations, I have been able to create compelling and memorable presentations.
The strategic use of pictures allows me to visually communicate key messages, evoke emotions, and capture the attention of potential clients or investors. Images can help illustrate the value and impact of my services, showcasing real-world examples and success stories. By carefully selecting images that align with the content and evoke a desired response, I create a visual narrative that strengthens my pitch.
Furthermore, leveraging brands within my pitch decks provides a powerful form of social proof. By showcasing partnerships or collaborations with recognizable and respected brands, I establish credibility and trustworthiness. This association implies that my work has been acknowledged and endorsed by established players in the industry, which significantly enhances my reputation.
