Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Francy Nunez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Francy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
Worst investment? 100% it would be buying photography equipment just because someone else was using it or because I thought it was cool. There are so many “fun” pieces of equipment that you can purchase in the photography world…it’s pretty crazy…but it’s easy to overdue it. Taking the time to see if you even need that item or if it is right for your style of photography/videography is super important so that everything you buy is an investment and not just a waste of money. Pretty simple right? Ha! Not until you see that new FX filter for your lens or a new camera comes out.
Best investment? Every camera I have purchased thus far. Each one has helped me expand my creative process and learn new techniques, which have helped me grow immensely. I also don’t stick to just one brand…which is kind of crazy to some photographers. Currently, my two main bodies are Sony and a Fuji Medium Format. Couple of years it was Canon….who knows…Nikon may be next.
Francy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Started with photography in high school, always sort of a hobby until I decided to get more serious with it in 2007 and then went full-time in 2010. After that, it’s all a bit of a wild ride. I’ve done weddings, fashion, portraits, food and beverage and just about everything in between. Not that I don’t know which one I like the most per se, but I just feel comfortable doing them all. Also makes it easy that I have been approached to do them and I usually will try anything at least once. You never know, right? They all have one thing in common though, making your subject look fabulous. And that’s my favorite part I guess. I’m also what you may call a Hybrid shooter, I shoot both photography and video, but if I had to choose just one it would be photography. It’s my first baby, so to speak. I’m also not committed to just one brand of camera, I mean, are you even surprised at this point? Currently, my two main bodies are Sony and a Medium Format Fuji. If I had to choose which set I love most, it would be my Fuji and my Zeiss 50mm lens. It’s like butter. My favorite part is that I have to rely on my eye to manually focus my lens, so it helps with intentional shooting and composition.
In 2017, I started diving into the world of Social Media Management. It was bound to happen since I was doing Content Creation for some brands and they would sometimes ask me to help them set up their Instagram posts. One thing led to another and now I am running a full Social Media Agency alongside my Photography business. They pretty much go hand in hand, so it balances out.
Currently, I have been working with a lot more restaurants, especially after Covid (believe it or not). Not to be biased, and not that you asked lol, but if you’re looking for some tips on great restaurants to try…I would definitely recommend Lil’ Laos and The Shores Miami at The Citadel, Eleventh St Pizza in Miami and for my Broward peeps, you have to try North South Grill, Colada and Toro in Dania just to name a few. You definitely won’t regret it….and check out their IG pages to catch some of my work on there! Ha!
It’s definity never a dull moment around the office, that’s for sure. I love it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to capture special moments for someone has to be the most rewarding aspect. Portrait sessions and wedding photos will (hopefully) be passed on to their children, then grandparents. That brings me so much joy.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Not so much that I wish I had known about YouTube earlier, because I have been on YouTube since it first started, but I wish there had been more creators active on there since the beginning. That has paved the way for so many talented, young creators. It’s pretty wonderful when you think about it. For a while there, I feel like it was all cat videos lol!
