Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Francois Larosa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Francois, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Hi Canvas Rebel Mag, love what you do, and the Creatives you acknowledge from all over. Also thanks for your patience with me I’ve been on the road, and flying around. Please excuse me on this interview, I might be all over the place but we’ll get it done together.
My company is called STARFIELD PRODUCTIONS, which started in 2008. It was derived from a song I heard from an Artist that was from Canada named Bruce Cockburn-(Whom I later had the pleasure of hanging with him backstage at one of his concerts.). In one of his lyrics he said “Starfield”. I thought thats different. I added Productions, then it developed into Starfield Productions in 2008. I have been using it for years and it’s associated with 3 Featured Films, and 4 Reality Television Shows. A dozen of Screenplay written, as well as several more Films.

Francois, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It all started in College Theater, learning and Acting in the Classics like Gilbert & Sullivan Productions, being the Lead in “The Eddie Cantor Story”, to Jesus Christ Superstar. Then branching off being casted in Short Films to getting on Robert Rodriguez’s sets. The Studio Sets taught me the function of the Roles of what each Crew Member did. Afterwards, I started early learning the Screenwriting Skills from an award winning Argentinian who won awards in Berlin Germany. Then migrated here to the US. I was one of two students when she first started her class. That foundation was the catalyst of me being where I am today as for writing in TV and Film. Also branched out in the past few years, becoming an Author of writing two books- Best Seller-“ANGEL / BEAST”, and “Children of the Mind”-my Novellas. (Available on Amazon-KINDLE, Goodreads.com, and Barnes and Nobles Press. Overall this made a huge impact on where I am now.
Everything has been about Timing. Learning the Kraft of Acting in Theater, then Screenwriting, to the essentials of Filmmaking. This is the route I found myself taking. The only thing I might have added to speed things up was knowing more of my Cameras and Lenses, that I utilize as well as more of the editing process. Maybe taking a class in both.
The important skills to be successful in this industry is learning to not only be Creative-(having a good Script-Story) but to learn the Business side of the Industry. Learning Legal Release forms in Acting, Crew and Location. Understanding about allocating some of your budget on Marketing. Understanding Distribution, that’s where the money is. Hiring a Camera person that has all the Lenses, and Good Camera, helps with one’s budget. Sound is so important. But this is the foundation of going down this path of Filmmaking.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience can be defined as the overcoming of stress or adversity. it’s a springboard for growth. When i am asked to speak to Actors, Writers, or Filmmakers I let them know that “In this Film Industry it’s hard not to come out unscathed in the business.”
As a Child I had issues with reading comprehension, understanding what I just read. This early deficit, later in life made a shift and that changed my life, and made me well off financially. This journey for me all started in College. I had a choice to either take an elective in Basket Weaving or Theater. Two years of this foundation set me on a path to where I’m at now. I might be repeating myself, so ahead I apologize.
I started on this path from learning Acting in College Theater getting educated in The Studio Sets arrangements, Lighting, the function of the roles of Characters and what each Crew Member did. All parts which later helped in building my set of skills in Film.
Screenwriting Skills is something that I enjoyed. The creation of nothing into something is in itself an Art form. That foundation of learning from the Masterclass Educator was the catalyst of me being where I am today as for writing in TV and Film.
Everything has been about Timing and “RESILIENCE.” Learning the Kraft of Acting in Theater, then Screenwriting, to the essentials of Filmmaking. This is the route I found myself taking.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I continue to do the Social Media Marketing just like others in the BIZ- Facebook-X-Instagram-Indiegogo-Crowdfunding-Linkedin-SLATED, and Face to Face Meetings. Still learning new Website APPS to promote Teasers-Posters- and Videos.
Though many see the accomplishments, what they don’t see is what it took to get there. It takes WORK!
I’m focus on a couple of things currently, “The Juarez Chronicles” is a miniseries that’s in development. Screenwriting a few projects. I try to stay focused on the Profession in the industry, and not discuss religion, or politics.
One of the most important things is marketing. Even though you may have a manager or an agent you still must utilize social media. It’s important to be seen as productive, working, a development in progress. Giving back to this Community and helping those that have an interest in this business is important as well. Gotta Jet. But thank you and Canvas Rebel!!
