We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Francis Jeremiah Oshogwe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Francis below.
Hi Francis, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first recognized my desire to pursue a creative and artistic path professionally when I discovered that painting was the sole activity that consistently brought me pleasure and fulfillment. I observed a profound sense of connection and inner peace whenever I engaged in artistic endeavors, particularly through painting. The joy I experienced during these moments of creative expression solidified my determination to pursue a career in the arts, as it provided a fulfilling outlet for my passion and talents.

Francis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Francis Jeremiah Oshogwe, a Nigerian Artist with roots in Edo State, Nigeria. My journey as an artist has been deeply shaped by the pastoral landscapes of my upbringing, serving as a constant wellspring of creative inspiration. From a young age, I was drawn to the vibrant world of nature and agriculture, which left an indelible mark on my artistic vision.
After earning my Higher National Diploma Degree from The Auchi Polytechnic, I embarked on a quest to define my artistic identity. Through experimentation, I found my signature style, characterized by the incorporation of floral patterns adorning the faces of my subjects. These patterns symbolize beauty and impermanence, while the gradual peeling away reflects the cycles of growth and change inherent in life.
Currently based in Sagamu, Ogun state, Nigeria, I am deeply invested in advocating for environmental preservation. Through my art, I strive to raise awareness about the importance of safeguarding green spaces and the vital role they play in sustaining life on our planet.
Moreover, my artistic endeavors extend beyond aesthetics; they serve as a source of solace and healing for individuals grappling with mental health challenges. By fostering a deeper connection with nature and conveying messages of tranquility, my art aims to uplift and inspire.
Ultimately, I am proud to use my creativity as a force for positive change, whether through environmental advocacy or promoting mental well-being. I hope to continue making a meaningful impact through my art, fostering a greater appreciation for the beauty of our world and the importance of preserving it for future generations.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist, for me, lies in the profound connection my audience experiences with my work. Beyond receiving compliments, it is immensely gratifying to witness individuals finding peace and solace through my art, and to see them connect with the stories I endeavor to tell. Knowing that my creations evoke emotions and resonate deeply with others brings a sense of fulfillment unlike any other. Additionally, receiving compensation for my work serves as a tangible acknowledgment of the value it holds, further reinforcing my dedication to my craft.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
1:Investment in Arts Education: Providing accessible and comprehensive arts education from an early age fosters creativity and appreciation for the arts. This includes support for arts programs in schools and community centers. 2:Financial Support and Funding: Establishing grants, fellowships, and funding opportunities specifically for artists and creatives enables them to pursue their craft without financial constraints. This can be achieved through government grants, private foundations, and crowdfunding initiatives.
3:Accessible Spaces and Resources: Creating affordable studio spaces, exhibition venues, and workshops ensures that artists have the necessary resources to create and showcase their work. Additionally, providing access to tools, materials, and equipment supports artistic innovation and experimentation.
Promotion and Exposure: Supporting initiatives that promote and showcase the work of local artists and creatives helps to amplify their voices and reach a wider audience. This can include art festivals, exhibitions, online platforms, and collaboration with local businesses and institutions.
4:Recognition and Respect: Valuing the contributions of artists and creatives to society by recognizing their work as essential and worthy of respect. This includes fair compensation for their labor, acknowledgment of their cultural significance, and inclusion in decision-making processes that affect the arts community.
By implementing these measures, society can create a supportive environment that nurtures creativity, fosters artistic expression, and ensures the sustainability of a thriving creative ecosystem.
