Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Franchesca Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Franchesca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
As an artist, I not only like to be involved in projects but I also like to create stories for myself. Back in 2019, I had moved back home in Kansas City from New York. At that time, I was flooding in debt and I needed to go back home to recuperate. At the time, I was more focused on trying to survive rather than thrive within, creatively. It is important to not let something like that disappear.
At that time, I had been let go from my manager in New York, had mountains of debt and felt lost. I had stopped being involved in my creative endeavors and felt at a loss. It was a good move for me to go back home because at the later half of 2019, I decided that I had wanted to write my first play.
As soon as I was about to start casting and booking a venue, the pandemic happened in early 2020. I did not let that stop me. I reframed my mindset and took this as a way to reroute instead of giving up. I ended up writing my first award winning short film that got released in March of 2022.
I had to keep my eyes and mind set on the prize and I did not let it deter me. When life throws you things unexpectedly, take it for what it is, adapt and continue moving forward. Therapy and journaling has also helped me when it comes to overcoming my set backs.
The key is to continue believing in your dream and goals like no one else. If you do not believe in it, who else will?

Franchesca, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a screenwriter, playwright, film, television, and commercial actress. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri.
I always had a true passion for acting, and I remember my light bulb moment like it was yesterday. I was on stage for a middle school play and we did the Wizard of Oz. I had the pleasure of playing the Wicked Witch of the West.
I was such a shy and quiet girl but the moment I got on stage, it was as if my quietness disappeared! I was in the MOMENT truly and immersed myself in the world on stage. From that point on, I knew that this path was meant for me.
In high school, I participated in the debate team and traveled for competitions while remaining involved in the school’s drama club and doing short plays. In college, I majored in English and Communications but participated in various plays throughout my tenure. It wasn’t until I graduated that I made the decision to move to New York City, where I resided there for 7 years. While I was there, I participated in a sketch comedy troupe that did stage productions of Harlem’s: In Living Color at The Broadway Comedy Club in New York City.
I went on to write my first screenplay titled: Tsunami which went into production in July 2021. It is the debut production from my company CHES Productions (Creating. Harmonic. Everlasting. Stories). It got officially selected to be screened in the Kansas City International Film Festival and Queens Underground Film Festival in New York City.
My next development will entail a play titled: Life’s Imperfections that will be produced and performed on stage in the greater Atlanta area. I also went on to star as the lead in How To Fold A Fitted Sheet, a film festival selected LGBT short film that is on Amazon Prime.
At this point in my journey, I am looking forward to NEW projects and realizations that will help me to continue to thrive and I can’t wait to continue creating and producing meaningful content for the world to see.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
As humans, we all have a calling. We all have a purpose. I think that one of the biggest things that non creatives find as a barrier for creatives is the lack of immediate return when it comes to our goals and ambitions. As children, we are all naturally creative, however our life path goes in different directions as we get older.
Some people are partial to a field in finance, while others are called to be within the medical field. However, what most do not realize is that we all have a sense of creativity inside of us. When we come up with particular ideas, that has to stem from the creativity within our brains.
Our calling may not have immediate results or return but it is what brings us joy. It is what is meant for us on our soul path. While someone may have been called to work within the dental field to help individuals with their oral health, another may be called to create things to touch other’s lives.
Both involve helping people in some way, but imagine someone telling you that you should not follow your calling? You would be left feeling unfulfilled with doing something else. This is why creatives continue to follow their life path regardless of the immediate results because it is something within our souls that we are called to do.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I am firm believer in the law of attraction. One book I recommend is the Placebo Effect by Joe Dispenza. The mind is a powerful tool. And I believe as artists, it is important for us to be present and in the moment and to believe we are worthy of receiving rewards as creatives.
This book talks about that and it changed my whole outlook completely. I also recommend The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. It gives you weekly assignments to do as an artist. One of my favorite things to do that I have implemented into my life is going on a solo artist date.
One other recommendation is a book called The Four Agreements. It is a book that gives you perspective of how you view yourself and what lies and truths you tell to yourself that may hold you back.
