We recently connected with Franceska Twigg and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Franceska, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I just hope to inspire others, while doing the things I love. I think that’s my main goal, to create something that inspires others and lifts them up in a way that encourages them to keep creating. There have been so many amazing creatives that I’ve encountered throughout my journey, that keep me going and reminds me that I’m capable of doing hard things and that’s what I want to do for others.
Franceska, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Franceska! I’m an artist based in Illinois. Currently, I’m an art student at the University of Illinois, studying art education. I’ve always loved art, and knew from a very young age that I wanted to be an artist. My earliest memories are of me drawing a picture and running to show my mom. She always hung up my drawings in our family’s restaurant and was always my number one supporter to keep creating. As I got older, I kept creating and eventually picked up a camera for the first time during quarantine in 2020. I instantly fell in love with photography, and knew it was something I wanted to pursue professionally. During this time, I discovered concert photography through some of my favorite bands and knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! Music has always been a huge part of my life, and was always a huge source of inspiration for me, so it just made sense combining my two passions together, art and music. I’m very proud of where I am in my journey and I’m so excited for what the future holds.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Everything! The highs, the lows and everything in between. But mostly, I think it’s just getting to create art that connects people together. The human experience is a main focal point in all my work, whether it’s photography or a different medium. I love the idea that art can connect us, it can give our experiences and memories a physical form. It unifies the creator and the viewer, and for a moment, we understand each other, or at least a small part of one another. With photography, there’s this idea of capturing a moment in time, an ephemeral memory. It’s really beautiful to think about, and I love being apart of it all.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
One major thing I’ve noticed with my friends and family is that they don’t understand why I do most of my photography for free! As a creative who is still reality new to all of this, it’s not uncommon to do some things for free. I’m still learning and I’ll take any experience I can get my lens in front of, so doing these services for free is just a part of that process. Everyone’s journey is different of course, but for me, this is what mine looks like at the moment and I’m so grateful for every single opportunity i’ve had so far! It’s my dream to be able to do this for a living soon, so if this is what I need to do in the mean time, that’s fine with me! My main priority is creating my art, whatever that might look like.
