We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Francesca Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Francesca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I had loved singing since I was a girl. Eventually, I wanted to be in a band. I didn’t quite know how to make it happen; I was sort of helpless. First of all, I had no idea how to write a song; in fact, it terrified me!!
At the time, I was working a day job at a recording studio in LA, so I saw these singers and bands coming and going, it killed my soul. For a while, I would write little poems and essays of sorts, ramblings. One day I was like that’s it, so I went on Craigslist and searched for bands looking for singers and answered a few. One seemed promising, so I jumped in and faked my way through writing a song. It just happened, and with time the songs got better, and I learned more and more.
Sometimes, we can get so stuck on some formal way of doing something that we miss out when we should just jump right in.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Singer-Songwriter my music tends to lean toward country/ Americana. It is something I thoroughly enjoy doing and though I still have a long way to go in career, I am very content with what I do. This business is constantly changing and moving fast, which makes it hard to slow down; that and also being a mom of two.
Writing has been my therapy, and so when I write a song, I want it to be that for other people. I want people to hear my songs and feel comfort and not feel alone.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Playing a show and having someone come up and say that a song touched them, or just seeing people dancing to my music!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I would like to continue to travel performing my music, and I would like to take my kiddos along with me so they can experience this whole country and parts of the world
