Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Frances Martinez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Frances, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

In 2019 my family decided to go to Disney for Christmas. A life long dream of mine. I have always been crafty and decided to make matching ears for our trip. Everyone loved the the ears and while at Disney we received many compliments on my ears. That inspired me to look into the possibility of opening up my own small shop. One year later Fantasmic Mouse Ears was born. I have not looked back since.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Frances and I was born and raised in the Bronx. I now live in Maryland where I run my small shop out of my home. My small shop started out when I made ears for a family trip and this trip inspired me to open my small shop and create Fantasmic Mouse Ears. I specialize in a variety of head accessories, which include ears, headbands and bows. I also create custom orders based on customer’s request. I’m most proud of the quality of my work and the feedback I receive inspires me to continue creating new things. I strive to create the best possible product and work tirelessly to evolve my brand and products.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?

Fantasmic Mouse Ears started in my dining room on a 6ft folding table. With the help of my silent partner aka my little brother I was able to renovate and expand my small shop. Also, with help of my father I was able to renovate my basement to create a space for Fantasmic Mouse Ears. Also, my daughter has been very instrumental in my success. She’s handles everything behind the scenes. From recording and editing to packing orders.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?

In promoting Fantasmic Mouse Ears I reached out to another small shop, Magical Mouse Junkies. Throughout the years we’ve collaborated on many projects which have helped both our businesses grow. Not only have we’ve been able to successfully collaborate on multiple projects throughout the years she has also become my best friend.
