We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fran Vives. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fran below.
Alright, Fran thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
As a creator, taking the risk of moving to another Country in my mid 30’s where I would start from 0 and leave my safe zone is a challenge I thought about a lot due to all the uncertainties especially when you have a family to support. This said, analyzing all the downside seemed like a mision impossible to take the risk but I can’t live this journey with the “what if ” because the fear weakens you and makes you less powerful when life is NOW and I won’t live it with regret. There is nothing to lose when you take the risk because there will always be a light that will make you keep moving forward and that light has been my family and music. When there is something that you are passionate about, all risk switches to challenges and that is something I thrive on.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in the U.S.A. from a Chilean marriage. My musical journey began at the age of 12 next to a vertical Piano at my parent’s house. At the age of 16, I learned how to play rhythms on my younger brother´s (Fernando Vives) toy drum kit, and later got a real drum set and began his first Progressive Rock band as a drummer. I studied Composition and Musical Arrangements at Escuela Moderna Institute of Chile (2002-2008). At the age of 23, I did some studies in the USA of Afro Beat rhythms with Senegalese master guru. At this time he develops a great interest in Synthesizers and sounds.I am currently in California USA and work as a Music Producer, Composer, instructor, and Live/Studio keyboardist musician.
My greatest strength is to guide and make artists believe they have something special and unique. In other words, to make them believe in themselves. Also, I’m an all around musician from performing, composing, arranging to engineering a music session in the studio analogue/digital.
I truly believe in knowing and understanding yourself is what will make you take the right decision to succeed. In my case I did not want to be the artist who has to surf the wave along with thousands of others but to be the tool (surfboard). Once I understood that everything changed and this is my path in music. Supporting others.I believe as a musician understanding the artist needs and vibe is all and vital when working together.
Currently I run my studio VivesMusic in San Francisco and have I live act with two of my brothers called “The Vros” Next level ****!
“Music is more than just a passion, it´s a lifestyle that can’t be heard if you don’t VIBRATE with it.”

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Making people happy and inspired. This is contagious.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Learning to understand failure not as a negative thing on the contrary it’s a lesson to reconnect with yourself and be more prepared because life is one big lesson we will all fail and move on forward.
