We were lucky to catch up with Fox Garza recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Fox thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Owning a business is “Taking a Risk”. It was definitely scary taking the leap and putting your savings into something exciting but also a bit of an unknown. I truly believe that you must risk to receive reward, so making sure it was an educated risk was very important. Also, having my partner, my boyfriend and best friend at the time, now husband ad father of my children, was a definitely a great support. Making sure we had a plan B and really made sure that we put in minimal to test our concept before we went full blow was key.
Fox, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
A Los Angeles native fashion designer & a 4th generation retail entrepreneur. Miss Fox was raised in a home of rockers, hippies and vintage fashion so she was naturally born into being obsessed with denim. Fox has been designing for the last 10 years in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and Paris. She has also been repairing, repurposing, and recycling denim for years for friends and family. In 2011 she met the man of her dreams and they put their talents & passions together to create the Foxhole!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Jeff and I opened Foxhole in Silverlake, Los Angeles in 2010 and we sold all vintage. After about 6 months of us being open we realized that denim and our vintage Tee collection was our bread and butter. Then soon after did we see the need for alterations, repair and custom denim projects. SO we then pivoted again and have never looked back.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met Jeff at the Echoplex in Echo Park. It was al all ages show and he had his “little brothers” in from Oklahoma so he brought them to an LA show. I was there because my friend Brendon told me to go check out his friend Hanni El Khatib. I saw Jeff in the dark club and could tell he was handsome even in the dim light. I got a but bored waiting for Hanni to come on so I decided to say hi . We talked on the phone for about a week and the Rose Bowl Vintage Swap Meet was our first date.
