We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Forsyth a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Forsyth, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
If I am being fully honest, I learned entirely via trial and error. I started hanging out with a few kids in my grade after school who made music just to see where to start…but beyond that my journey began with a plastic USB microphone and garage band. I didn’t have any family or close friends who made music so I really just went off feel and what sounded good to my ear. One thing I had going for me was that I listened to A LOT of music, especially hip hop. That at least gave me a good direction to work towards as far as my sound was concerned.
As far as skills go, I believe the most essential skills are passion, drive and the will to learn. Success is not guaranteed, but if you work at your craft and release consistently good music over an extended period of time, your chances of success drastically increase. Lastly, the only obstacle worth noting is yourself! You have to have blinders on in the music game. You only lose when you quit. That may seem cliche but it’s the truth.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got into the industry by relentlessly networking with other artists and focusing on what was working as it pertained to organic growth. I recognized that it’s not just enough to make a good song, you need to find patterns, learn your audience and if you see something working hone in on it. Getting your music out there is not a one-size-fits-all type thing.
What sets me apart from others is my focus on quality. I treat any song with the same level of detail and effort as you never know who might be listening on the other end. I also am a great song writer and I care about what I’m saying in my music. To me that has always been a core part of hip hop; being yourself is when you can standout the most and be truly unique.
Finally, I am most proud of my ability to improve and keep learning. I’ve been doing music for a long time now, but I still feel like I am just getting started and reaching my stride. That really motivates me and keeps me hungry for more.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is my music is an embodiment of me. It’s my aura, essence and spirit. Anything creative is powerful and uniquely human. Music has my heart and is where I can be an unadulterated version of me.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Build your audience by networking. The world revolves around people and spheres of influence. Always take a phone call, always be opportunistic, always be thinking creatively on how to work with others. Put aside your ego and pay your dues when you are just getting started. If you do all these things, and produce great music/product, the audience will find you.
