We recently connected with Forrest Lamie and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Forrest, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Most of the time I am not, the time I use being creative is when I’m the happiest. I work 2 jobs, for a single bed apartment no pets besides my baby prey mantis. With how small my music career is taking off I do still rely on working to get the tools I need to grow artist profile.
Forrest, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started out in the scene as a photographer, and shortly got invested with the whole day to day production of running and tearing down a show. Along side creating music and really making a name for myself as a artist, I constantly find myself working even harder for other acts/ supporting fellow artists in the industry with hospitality. Mostly work with touring artists and small bands on the road. In detail it means making sure they are comfortable when they arrive and riders and contract guidelines are taken care of upon arrival. Being behind the scene and knowing how a venue works has been a great advantage getting started in this industry. I do dream being on the other side and traveling, spending the time working on my own craft would be ideal then working for other artists. But I do enjoy my job very much so coming from 10+ years in the restaurant industry. So naturally as a Production Manager/ Show lead I find it very amusing and fun to have this job.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
Never been into them, with something so new and also to be involved with currency is so foreign to me. I would trust art being a form of currency. The price of art has always been so vague and no art really has a price. Its what its worth to the buyer and that’s all that matters.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Sharing my craft with other eyes. To say the least, it gets boring having your art looked at just by 1 set of eyes and not letting it be gazed at upon anyone else. Every artist deserves recognition for their work, and I guess I register with getting my work out to the world. I love to share my thoughts and ideas with fellow artists for hopefully future collaborations. Networking is so important and a lot of it goes with an artists particular style that inspires other like minded individuals. When recognition happens that’s when you really feel like an artist, and sharing your art gets easier and easier.
