Forever, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Forever Soul Live, is a creative artist collective, starting its roots in NYC in 2016. We have hosted community events, open mics, showcases and various teaching workshops. Being performing artists ourselves, it is a very important mission to us to create safe spaces in different places for people to network, grow, and feel vitalized in their craft. We started traveling to different states in 2018 to connect with other community curators to understand the disparity of the art community (especially minority based communities) and see how we can learn/help in the process. Eventually after giving years of our art and love to NYC, we decided to migrate to Philadelphia and put some creative roots there. We hosted open mics at the Wilma Theatre and was able to connect and give safe spaces to other NYC artists to create roots in a different state. We learned that even though many of us are from different walks of life, we all go through a lot of the same struggles. The same pains are plaguing so many communities across America. Near or far, we are all the same. We came to Denver to visit during this time and realized Denver is lacking in cultural art and resources for the minority communities here. A light bulb clicked and we realized that we are needed here. To give that inspiration that our art, community, and culture matters. We packed our belongings, and moved thousands of miles from home, in the middle of the pandemic, to aspire to make our mission known in the great midwest area. We have been in Colorado state for two years, and the jump we have made here has been one of our best so far as a collective as well as a couple. We have been able to grow as individuals by putting ourselves in a different environment with a lot of obstacles. However, just like in business and life, you either have to sink or swim. For us, failure is not an option. We currently teach, perform, host events and connecting with the Colorado community in different ways than we did back at home. We have built on our business and ourselves in ways we never expected to. Taking risks in life will put you in a situation where you are trusting yourself to guide you to a whole new experience of enlightenment . We believe the mission of our life’s purpose is to be impactful in whatever way you can and have it inspire others. For us, growing up and not having the resources needed, we had to take a lot of risks to even be here. Risks are the personal jumps you need to get from one space or mindset to the next. Take risks and be uncomfortable . Being uncomfortable helps you grow and taking risks is that water you need for that seed.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect about being a creative artist is having the ability for us to be ourselves. We both know we were never meant to continuously work a 9-5 and live our lives on this routine cycle of comfortability. Being an artist gives you the freedom to be who you are, or whomever you want to be as freely as you want to. Us being artists has put us in rooms we would have never stepped foot in not pursuing this craft. Art has taught us not only about these talents we have, but our mission to use our talents to help our families as well as communities. Being an artist inspire our friends and families to pursue different passions they never thought they would pursue either. Being an artist is a tough but beautiful experience. It gives us hope.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson we had to unlearn was the unsavory human habit of focusing on negativity. The negativity of a show that bombed or an assignment we failed. The job we didn’t get and that person we never could tell that we liked them. Sometimes we thought ourselves into an anxiety filled space without giving ourselves room to grow. The biggest ideal of it all, is missing the positives in the negatives. The work that we put in to succeed and be our best selves. The motivation we use every day to do something we love. The persistence to accomplish our goals and aspire to inspire the masses. Changing your mindset is a key to being successful and we learned that very early on.
