We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Forever Nika. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Forever below.
Forever, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Becoming an entrepreneur was the greatest decision I’ve ever made. To be able to use my God given talent on my terms is a huge blessing.
Being your own boss has its perks, but it comes with huge sacrifices and much more responsibility. Sometimes I wish I had the “luxury” of clocking in and out- leaving work behind when I walk out the door, but working a regular job has never worked for me in the past. My vision of how things should be usually clashes with how things are, thus leading me to resign or be released lol.
In short, I’d rather have the responsibility of owning and operating Forever Nika, than to be miserable at a 9-5 where I have no control.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Yes, I am a licensed hairstylist here in the Dallas are; with over ten years experience. I specialize is protective and luxury styles- wigs, sew ins, and natural hair care.
I grew up in a family of full of women, so the ability to do hair is second nature to me. I had two aunts who were beauticians as well. I learned a lot from them. One of the main things that was instilled in me is that God must be the head of my business plan- no matter what. The second most important thing is discipline. Even when I’m not motivated, I have to have the discipline to push through. With me being taught that, I’ve literally performed services on clients when I knew I should’ve been home in bed getting well.
I remember getting nauseous in the middle of a service- sweating and feeling faint. I stopped for a minute, leaned over the trash can to expel whatever was making it’s way up (overshare I know), went into the ladies room to freshen up, then finished the service. One thing my clients will rarely tell you is I canceled their appointment for personal reasons or because I’m sick. When I’m at work- I work.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Knowing when to pivot and move in a different direction is a skill everyone should have.
I’m known to be the person who will try and try until there’s no other choice but to go a different direction.
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned in life and in business is deciding when to let go and move forward. But in doing so, you release so much unnecessary weight. You feel lighter and are able to soar with ease.
One question I always ask myself in order to stay on track is, “how does this thing or person help me achieve my goal or purpose in life?” That’s when the pivot point becomes more clear.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The funniest thing is I don’t use any gimmicks or social media hacks. I’m the same person on and offline and the people love it.
One thing I will tell anyone who’s trying to build and audience on social media is not to get caught up on the number. Social media marketing is just one of many tools to grow your business. Nothing will ever outdo word of mouth and great customer service. You want your business to thrive, even if the internet crashes.
Get creative, but don’t lose yourself. I always try to stay true to who I am- hints the name ‘ Forever Nika’’. You will always get the authentic form of me, no matter what.
