We were lucky to catch up with FoodGoodinc recently and have shared our conversation below.
FoodGoodinc, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I decided on the name FoodGoodinc in a nod to the Gorillaz song “Feel Good Inc.” which I thought would encompass all the food related aspects I wanted to share on my account; not specifically focusing on a certain type of cuisine or city or only sharing my homemade meals, but the broad topic. Good food makes us feel good!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I shine a light to local restaurants and bars also highlighting cookbook recipes and homemade food. I originally decided to make a social media account exclusively dedicated to food to share my passion for home cooking and to hopefully inspire others to try new recipes and enjoy cooking. I post what I did to change or alter a cookbook recipe if I didn’t have an ingredient on hand or if something else fit instead in my opinion. Once the pandemic hit, I wanted to include local businesses to showcase places I like and how important it is to support small businesses especially in an unsteady time. I am proud to also submit reviews and write for the food website, Beyondish.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My original account was made in 2019 but got hacked in 2023, so I spent a few weeks trying to get support on how to retrieve my account but it became evident there was no getting it back. It was very frustrating to have so much work lost but a good deal of it was still attached to my Facebook page which didn’t get affected. I thought maybe this would be a good chance or a sign to move on but I missed interacting with local businesses and fellow foodies. It had been an enjoyable online community. I came to the conclusion I would have to start fresh on Instagram and rebuild. I’m still not at the follower count I once was, but restarting has proven that this is my passion and I am willing to do whatever it takes to continue it.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It takes a lot of time to build an audience but as you find like-minded peers, you naturally grow. There are accounts I’ve been following for years because we were posting about the same cookbooks. Even when my account was hacked and I had to start over, they were easy to reconnect with and we picked back up liking and commenting on each others’ posts. They feel like true virtual friends and having their support is great. The more you connect with others with similar interests and stay active, the easier it is for others to find your page. I also think using hashtags is important to hone in on what you’re displaying and make it easily identifiable and reachable. Being patient is necessary and will pay off. Learning the craft of making quality posts and enticing reels takes some trial and error.
