Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Fly Jon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Fly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
At 23 years old, I can honestly say that investing in my health has been one of the most important decisions I’ve ever made, along with biking. Becoming a vegan in 2020 transformed my entire life and it has had an amazing impact on my overall wellbeing (especially my mental health). Having worked at plant-based establishments such as Arden’s Garden & Sevananda Natural Foods Market, it assisted me in making the transition. These places allowed me to educate myself on diets, nutritional supplements & even gave me a wider variety of food selections. I learned about sea-moss, taking probiotics, knowing what vitamins to take, & how much calorie intake the average person needs. Now I am able to eat healthier, still receive all nutrients and energy I need to function and still have enough energy to bike, go hiking and do other things. There’s nothing like a ten-piece hot wing combo or a fresh slice of cheese pizza, right?! While they may have tasted great to me, I always found myself feeling sluggish afterwards. Being exposed to plant-based alternatives to certain foods helped me switch over easily.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Making music was always something I was passionate about and wanted to pursue since my early years of high school. I was always the type of individual who needed to experience life and create music based off inspiration. Being in the studio wasn’t something I could just commit to without having any substance to put in the songs. I began biking to catch views, become fit, & find inspiration. Soon, it became more than just a practice to help me create music. I began biking weekly for fun & also noticed my endurance and physical capabilities improved. Around the city of Atlanta, there are pay-to-ride bikes provided by HOPR & powered by Relay Bike Share. I’d just ride the bikes and document my journeys and capture the views and post them onto my social media accounts. The team at Relay Bike Share reached out to me through Twitter after noticing how much I rode their bikes. After offering me a brand ambassador position, I took it upon myself to make content and professionally promote their brand. Now I create Instagram reels, post promotional videos, & help customers who may have a hard time using the bikes along the belt-line. It’s so great because I would have eventually done these things had they never reached out. The simple fact that Relay chose me to be an ally and partner with me still amazes me . My biggest lesson learned from this entire situation was to stay persistent & be myself . Everything happened organically and it was all because I just consistently did what I loved doing.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing how people receive & engage with the final product. It always fascinates me to hear others’ opinions and get their feedback, whether negative or positive.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Most people who follow me on social media may think that I create content everyday or that I just come up with inspiration for my concepts and videos easily. In reality, most of the time I tend to overthink and may even run into creative blocks at times. I would just advise anyone to try and stay consistent at posting and interacting with other creatives as yourself to keep traction. Make quality content! Don’t rush or force anything! If you’re not feeling inspired or don’t have any content to offer for a period of time, your goal should be to engage with your followers. Be fresh on their minds if you’re not on their timeline. Capture your target audience’s attention and captivate them with your content. Make them want to continue following and supporting even when you don’t have anything to offer at the moment.
