We recently connected with Floyd Grant and have shared our conversation below.
Floyd , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was 13 years old back in 2000, I knew that i wanted to be a professional recording artist. When I witness the influence in my voice, the way people moved, the way people reacted to my gift, the imprint that it left, the impression that it gave and even to this day people remember the first time hearing me how they felt, I knew that God gave me something that was and is special. I knew that there was an anointing a different kind of power that only GOD can give. It started in Church when I would sing, it brought people to tears, it brought joy, happiness, the holy spirit and praise unto GOD. When I became an Artist, the way people would get up and dance and move, clap and sing. The way other artist would be inspired was inspiration to me and I have loved every moment bringing smiles and joy to people. Its my inspiration.
Floyd , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an Awarded R&B/Pop Vocalist and Entertainer out of Atlanta, GA I’ve been in the music industry as a Solo act for 12 years, overall 20 years. I have a few albums and singles out on all digital music platforms. I have a new music video coming out for my single “Dirty” and more. I have a Holiday Party called “R&B Holiday” featuring some of my good musical friends Dec 10th, you need to make sure you are there.
Some of the things I’m proud of are the opportunities that I have been able to be apart of in my career and the opportunities I’m embarking on at this time. I am very happy about the constant support across the world and that there’s still a chance for me to be better and bigger.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that just because they are nice to you in your face doesnt mean they dont hate you behind your back. I have definitely had my share of being burned by pretending people. I had to learn to ask GOD for the spirit of discernment concerning people who were interested in being around me. It takes time to develop, but I have had to unlearn that nice doesnt always mean NICE. But even in the ugliness, always remain resilient. I have always remained resilient in the face of adversity.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I came on the scene when there was no, social media platforms that pushed creatives like today accept for Facebook and Twitter. When Instagram came on the scene, I was about 2 years in as a solo act and even then it was not used for creatives but more so personal. I came with an audience through, “Street Teams” , Show cases, competitions, back when true artistry was putting in the work out in the streets and gaining a following. Today i realize that Online presence is important but if I must be honest, you still need to build your audience in the streets not literally in the streets. But having both is what will prepare you for success. Online presence is great but if no one shows up to your shows then what’s the point?
