Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Florish Adebayo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Florish thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
If I were to start Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics all over again, knowing what I know now, I would begin by grounding myself in confidence and community. At 17, my business was born out of my struggle with dry, eczema-prone skin and the frustration of trying product after product that didn’t work for me. In those early days, I spent so much time second-guessing myself, doing everything alone, and trying to “perfect” before launching. If I could go back, I would trust my vision sooner and not be afraid to take up space.
I would also focus earlier on building systems understanding pricing, scaling, and funding, rather than just pouring all my energy into the creative side. School and research at Laurentian University shaped so much of my foundation, and now I see how much earlier I could have used that scientific knowledge to strengthen my business model.
Lastly, I would lean into faith and community right from the start. Both have been such anchors for me, and I’ve learned that people are ready to support your vision if you simply share it. If I could start over, I’d give myself permission to ask for help, seek mentorship, and build with others instead of carrying the weight alone.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Florish Adebayo, and I am the founder of Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics, a beauty brand I started out of both necessity and passion. Since I was a child, I struggled with dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin. I tried countless products and saw many doctors, but my skin concerns never truly went away. At 17, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I began researching the science behind skin conditions like eczema and dry skin, and slowly started formulating products for myself starting with hydrating lip glosses and then expanding to body yogurts, oils, scrubs, and facial care.
At the same time, I was pursuing my degree in Biochemistry at Laurentian University, where my academic research in immunology, dermatology, and genetics directly fueled my formulations. Studies on eczema-related genes like CARD11 and Filaggrin (FLG) deepened my understanding of skin barrier dysfunction and inspired me to create products that aren’t just cosmetic, but restorative and nourishing for people like me. That connection between science, personal experience, and beauty is the heartbeat of Beiwty Rishrish.
Our brand provides non-toxic, vegan, cruelty-free skincare and beauty products designed for people with sensitive skin and skin conditions. From lip care (glosses, oils, scrubs) to body care (butters, oils, scrubs) and now branching into self-care lifestyle products, our mission is to make beauty accessible, safe, and empowering for everyone. What sets us apart is that every formula has been created with people who often feel left out of the beauty conversation in mind those who want products that look and feel good but also care for their skin on a deeper level.
I am most proud of how much my brand has grown from a simple table at my university’s Black History Month event to sponsoring women’s galas, school initiatives, and Black women-led events, as well as hosting workshops that allow people to create their own beauty products. Every step reflects both my personal journey and my desire to give back to my community.
What I want people to know about Beiwty Rishrish is that it’s not just about beauty. it’s about confidence, healing, and empowerment. It’s about redefining beauty standards and showing that skincare and self-care can be both luxurious and accessible. And above all, it’s about community: I want my work to inspire others, especially young women and Black entrepreneurs, to know that their struggles can fuel their purpose.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
When I first started Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics, I didn’t have investors or outside funding. I had been working since the age of 16, and by 17, I had saved up just under $1,000. That savings became the seed capital for my business buying my first ingredients, packaging, and materials to make lip glosses. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to get me started and prove that my idea could work.
As time went on and I saw the potential of my business, I continued to reinvest from my personal savings and any profits I made. Every dollar I earned went right back into growing Beiwty Rishrish expanding from lip products to body care, face oils, and now even lifestyle items. Starting small and being resourceful taught me how to maximize limited resources, stay disciplined with finances, and build a brand from the ground up without relying on loans or outside funding in the early days.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Yes, I manufacture most of my products. When I first started, I didn’t have access to a lot of things, so I bought most of my equipment from Amazon and worked with what I had. As my business began to grow, I started sourcing higher-quality packaging and raw materials from specialized vendors.
Manufacturing a product is never a one-step process. it takes months of research, formulating in small batches, and a lot of trial and error. My family and friends have been my first and most honest testers, which helped me refine my formulas. Finding the right vendors for tubes, packaging, and equipment also took time. I went through samples, tested durability and quality, and learned that patience and persistence are key. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that good manufacturing is not just about making a product that works, but making one that’s consistent, safe, and something I’d personally be proud to use every day.
