We recently connected with Florida Palmore and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Florida, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
This could be considered a loaded question. As a child growing up you think more about what your parents are doing wrong, than what they are doing right. Especially if you’re raised by a single mother that has to be both disciplinarian and nurturer. There seemed to be a lot more discipline than nurturing. But as you grow, both physically and mentally. you notice the “right” and nurture in that discipline. So that’s what my mother did right. She disciplined me. She taught me that my actions can have reaction or consequences. She taught me how to be respectful. She taught me to be mentally strong. She taught me how to put my all into anything I do and the list can go on and on. During the process it definitely wasn’t easy to see the right in her parenting. I can remember the times when I would go to my room and yelling (under my breath of course) I HATE HER! But even in those moments she was preparing me for life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Florida (like the state). And yes I am from Florida as well. I am a Realtor here in Texas. I was born and raised in Lakeland, FL. A small town between Tampa and Orlando. I moved to Texas because my mother was living here and wanted me to get out of my comfort zone and have more opportunities. And I’ve taken full advantage of those opportunities. I’ve mingled with Billionaires, Millionaires and “I aint even got it” aires. I’ve had more jobs than I can count. I’ve been an employee, a temp worker, an actor, a comedian, a barber, a network marketer and a jobless bum. I’ve slept in my car, in hotels, with friends and even on the beach. It hasn’t always been great days but I was built to withstand any trial. I was raised to be resourceful and persistent. The only way you can fail is if you QUIT and that was NEVER an option. That road has allowed me to understand people. We all have a few things in common. We all are just human and we all have issues. We all have good and bad days. We all want to enjoy life.
One thing I’ve learned to do is listen to people. If you would just listen, they’ll tell you what they want or need. But here’s the catch…sometimes you have to listen with your eyes. They say English is the most common language in the world but I believe body language is the most common. After all actions speak louder than words.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Social Media! In todays society social media is the number one media outlet. It allows you to reach more people than you ever thought possible. Social media has been a great resource for me growing my clientele. I’ve had people from all over reach out to me to buy a home. I even have international clients because of social media.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn “Work hard and you can have anything you want”. Now before anyone comes for me let me elaborate a little. I’ve seen my mother, grandmother and so many others work hard. I’m talking 3 and 4 jobs at the same time just to provide. But I never saw them retire or have the things they wanted. I just saw them working hard day in and day out. And they taught me to work hard. But there’s an ingredients missing from this recipe to success.
